Walthamstow, a Greater London constituency established in 1974, has been represented by Stella Creasy of the Labour and Co-operative Party since 2010.

The Labour Party has held the seat since 1992, with Creasy's 2015 victory making it one of Labour's safest seats. The area, close to Stratford and bordered by Epping Forest to the east and the Lea Valley to the west, features transformed greyhound racing tracks into housing and parks. Unemployment rates in November 2012 were notably above the national and Greater London averages at 7.2%.
