French Parliament

The Parliamentary election that took place in June 2022 differs from the Presidential election.

Here you need 289 seats for a majority with the President's party (LREM) and his coalition partners falling short by 44, In total, they lost 102 seats.

The big winners were from the left (NUPES) and right-wing groupings (National Rally, Union of Right and Centre) of french politics.

Parties %Seats
Ensemble Alliance38.57%244
NESPU31.60%127
National Rally17.30%89
Union of the Right and Centre7.29%64

This will make legislation incredibly difficult for the LREM alliance and gridlock could ensue.

We may be seeing another French General election sooner than was being considered by anyone.

As an example of this Valery Giscard D'Estaing won the Presidency as an Independent Republican, that then became the Republican Party, who then joined the Union For French Democracy.
