The annual award is presented by the French magazine France Football.
- Only representatives of the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries will be allowed to vote for the Men's award, and only the top 50 FIFA-ranked countries will be allowed to vote for the Women's award.
- Voting will now be based on performances across the European football season.
- Players will be judged on individual performances only.
- All players from every corner of the world are eligible for the Ballon d'Or prize.
