The annual award is presented by the French magazine France Football. 

  • Only representatives of the top 100 FIFA-ranked countries will be allowed to vote for the Men's award, and only the top 50 FIFA-ranked countries will be allowed to vote for the Women's award. 
  • Voting will now be based on performances across the European football season.
  • Players will be judged on individual performances only. 
  • All players from every corner of the world are eligible for the Ballon d'Or prize. 
  • Every country is represented with 3 votes, one each from the national team manager, the captain and a nominated sports journalist from that country.
