American Song Contest FAQ
When Is The American Song Contest?
The American Song Contest will run from March 21st to May 10th.
- Heat 1: 21st/22nd March
- Heat 2: 28th/29th March
- Heat 3: 4th/5th April
- Heat 4: 11th/12th April
- Heat 5: 18th/19th April
- Semi-Final: 25th/26th April
- Semi-Final: 2nd/3rd May
- Final: 9th/10th May
What Is the American Song Contest Format?
American Song Contest Qualifying
- The American Song Contest format will feature 5 rounds of qualifying followed by 2 Semi-Finals and the Grand Final.
- Each qualifying round will see a jury of 56 music industry professionals (one jury from each state and territory) select 1 song to advance automatically to the Semi-Finals.
- Viewers will then vote for a further 3 songs to advance to the Semi-Finals, so 4 songs in total from each qualifying round.
- So 5 rounds x 4=20 songs into the Semi-Finals.
- After the 20 songs have been selected the jury will choose 2 "redemption" songs that they feel are worthy of a Semi-Final place, making a grand total of 22 Semi-Finalists.
- The two Semi-Finals will then follow exactly the same voting process as the qualifying rounds to select the 10 American Song Contest finalists.
American Song Contest Final
- Each of the 56 jury members in the final will award 12 points.
- The viewer's votes will then be added to the jury scores giving us the best original song and first winner of the American Song Contest.
