London Mayor Candidates
Sadiq Khan
Sadiq Khan has been the London Mayor since 2016 when he beat Conservative Zac Goldsmith with 57 % of the vote. He followed this with a 2021 victory over Conservative rival Shaun Bailey. He seems popular with a wide cross-section of Londoners although his 2023 extension of his ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) policy has angered drivers, although it has significantly reduced the number of vehicles entering the zone.
Jeremy Corbyn
With the former Labour leader not being allowed to stand for Labour in Islington North at the next General Election his supporters have encouraged him to enter the London Mayoral race. If he does then this may well split the Khan vote.
David Lammy
The Tottenham MP put himself forward as the Labour mayoral candidate in 2014 but finished fourth behind Sadiq Khan, Tessa Jowell and Diane Abbot. He is quoted in the London Mayor Betting for 2024 but if Khan stands then he may have to wait until 2027.
Dawn Butler
The London MP for Brent North Dawn Butler is in a similar position to David Lammy and may have to wait for the reign of Khan to come to an end to win the Labour nomination.
Rory Stewart
Rory Stewart announced in 2019 that he was standing as an Independent candidate for London Mayor, and would be taking on Khan and Bailey. With the 2020 campaign postponed due to COVID, he could not maintain his campaign in 2021 and he withdrew.
His time may have passed but he is the only non-Labour candidate currently quoted in the race for 2024.
