The runner that holds the record over the past 10 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2025 renewal when Via Sistina from Chris Waller under the guidance of James McDonald, won in a time of 2:07.91, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Tosen Stardom, trained by Darren Weir and ridden by Damian Lane set the quickest time of 2:01.22 in the 2017 renewal.

What the expert says...
The Cox Plate is a popular route into this race; the 2024 & 2025 winner, Via Sistina, won that race before winning this both years. The winners from 2016, 2020 & 2022 all came via that race, although none of those won both.
