First of all, remember to head over to our dedicated Grand National site which is packed full of information from detailed backgrounds on each of the forty Grand National runners, Grand National tips and tools galore to help you make a selection such as Grand National lucky dip and grand national winner predictor.

The race as we know it was first run in 1839 when Jem Mason rode Lottery to success, the race features some of the most famous fences in racing with Bechers Brook, Foinavon, the Canal Turn, Valentine's Brook and The Chair all challenging the runners. It's hard to talk about the Grand National without mentioning the great Red Rum, the only runner to win the race three times with wins in 1973, 74 & 77.

The race is a Premier Handicap which carries a prize fund of £1m with the winner receiving £500k, runners aged seven or older can enter the race which is run over a distance of four miles, two and a half furlongs during which a total of thirty fences will be jumped as the runners do two laps of the course.

Grand National Information:

In April, the only thing racing fans are interested in is the Grand National tips from the OLBG expert racing tipsters, which of the forty runners are they predicting to win the showcase race at Aintree? We cover every race at the Aintree Grand National Meeting and below you can find links to all of the races for each of Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

How competitive is the Grand National market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 20 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2024 when the race had an over-round of 137%. The race in 2015 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 165%, whilst on average over the last 20 renewals of the Grand National, the over-round has been 150%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £150 which is bet.

Below you will find the 2026 Grand National Trends, see which patterns have occurred over the recent renewals that you may be able to use for the next renewal, we also have a section that looks at the Grand National Trend Analysis.

These are the top three quickest-run Grand National over the last 20 renewals:

  1. Many Clouds (8:56.80) in 2015
  2. Tiger Roll (9:01.00) in 2019
  3. Ballabriggs (9:01.20) in 2011

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? From the past 20 if you had followed the winner of the Grand National next time out then you would have backed a total of 0 winners. Backing all 18 runners who have been out since to win at SP next time out, would have returned an LSP of -18.00. Before placing your bet on the 2026 Grand National see which other runners today are being backed on the racing predictions page.

The runner that holds the record over the past 20 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2006 renewal when Numbersixvalverde from Martin Brassil under the guidance of Niall P Madden, won in a time of 9:41.00, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Many Clouds, trained by Oliver Sherwood and ridden by Leighton Aspell set the quickest time of 8:56.80 in the 2015 renewal.

What the expert says...
Six of the last seven winners came from three races, the Cross Country at Cheltenham (2018-19), the Ultima also at Cheltenham (2022-23) and then more recently the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse (2024-25) and all car one of those (2022) won that race before coming here.
