Betting Approach & Bet Types - What is a Lucky 15?
Although the football season is yet to actually finish, it's very nearly done and my own personal betting interest in football is definitely done for the season so I'm turning my focus onto other sports and other types of betting.
For the next few months, I'll be focusing on enjoying all the fascinating horse racing action with the flat turf season now in full effect and I'll be punting along the way, hopefully landing a few bets to keep my wallet & bank balance alive.
To start with I'm going to do a little series of blogs looking at betting approach from the perspective of different bet types and in this blog I'm going to look at explaining what a Lucky 15 actually is.
A Lucky 15 is a very popular type of bet with punters but my 5+ years of working in a betting shop & at racecourses have shown me that although plenty of people love to have a Lucky 15, they don't actually know or fully understand what the bet consists of, indeed that's the case for many bet types.
So here is a breakdown of exactly what at A Lucky 15 is:
What is a Lucky 15?
"A multiple bet consisting of four selections and consisting of 15 separate bets: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold accumulator.
So the first basic factor is that it is called a Lucky 15 because the original 4 selections ie horses, correct scores, etc combine to produce 15 different bets:
- 4 Singles
6 Doubles
4 Trebles
1 4-fold accumulator
To explain it further, here is a breakdown of those different bets.
Bets | Selections | Combinations |
|
---|---|---|---|
Singles | 4 | 1,2,3,4. |
|
Doubles | 6 | 1+2, 1+3, 1+4, 2+3, 2+4, 3+4 |
|
Trebles | 4 | 1+,2+3. 1,+2.+4, 1+3+,4, 2+,3+,4. |
|
Accumulator | 1 | 1+2+3+,4. |
|
Here's what you do get depending on how many of the 4 selections win
So I've explained that Lucky 15 is a bet made from 4 individual selections which then combine to doubles, trebles & a 4- fold, the next question to answer is show which bets you get depending on how many of your 4 selections actually win:-
1 Winner
Quite simply if you get just 1 winner in your Lucky 15 then you get a straight win Single on your horse,
Although most bookmakers do a Bonus concession and pay at least Double Odds 1 winner and this is actually where the 'Lucky' reference comes in.
2 Winners
If you get 2 winners then you will collect on
2 Winning Singles ( 1 & 2)
1 Winning Double (1 x 2)
3 winners
if you get 3 winners then you will collect on:-
3 Winning singles (1, 2 & 3)
3 Winning doubles (1 x 2, 1 x 3 & 2 x 3)
1 Winning treble )1 x 2 x 3)
4 winners
That's the ultimate dream scenario in Lucky 15 land, hitting all 4 winners will land you all 15 correct bets as noted previously and you may well also land the bonus which most bookmakers pay for fully correct bets.
A Lucky 15 is a good way of having some fun on the horses & combining 4 horses together for what can be relatively small stakes to win potentially huge returns, hit the right Lucky 15 and you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
Lucky 15 Example
If you bet a total of £1 per bet on a Lucky 15 that would be a total cost of £15.
If the odds were 3/1 per selection and all 4 won, the returns would be as follows.
Bet Type | Bets Struck | Total Return |
---|---|---|
Singles | 4.00 (4 bets of £1) | £16.00 |
Doubles | 6.00 (6 bets of £1) | £96.00 |
Trebles | 4.00 (4 bets of £1) | £256.00 |
Accumulator | 1.00 (1 bet of £1) | £256.00 |
A total return of £624.00.
From some online bookmakers, there may be a bonus for just one winner, or a bonus if you hit all 4 winners.
I hope that explains what a Lucky 15 is & helps you to understand exactly what you are getting for your money when you put your Lucky 15 on
Remember to shop around for the best odds & terms so give yourself the best chance of making the most if you get Lucky.
