Registered as the Berkshire Novices Chase, this Grade 2 chase is currently run under Coral Novices Chase for sponsorship purposes. Run at Newbury in November of each year it has also been known as the Hopeful Chase, it is contested over just shy of two miles and four furlongs during which a total of sixteen fences will be faced.

The race has been won by some runners who went on to have successful chasing careers with the likes of Denman, Bobs Worth, Dynaste, Coneygree & Clan des Obeaux all winning this race early in their chasing careers.
