Wet Leg are the 7/2 favourites for this year's Mercury Music Prize
Wet Leg have been one of the biggest bands in the UK in the last year with their overnight success seemingly growing and growing.
Viral hit 'Chaise Longue' was boosted by TikTok sounds on the app and it became a big hit due to that.
Bookmakers make them 7/2 to win the Mercury Music Prize Award with their self titled debut album Wet Leg.
Mercury Music Prize Winner 2022 | Odds | Probablity |
---|---|---|
Wet Leg | 7/2 | 22.2% |
Kae Tempest | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Little Simz | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Fontaines D.C. | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Dave | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Wet Leg's set at Glastonbury showed that they aren't just a flash in the pan but they are a force to be reckoned with in the indie rock scene.
Poet Kae Tempest is the second favourite to win the Mercury Prize this year, and they have already been nominated for the award twice before.
Dave is 10/1 in the betting market to win the big award in UK music
Dave is a massively popular winner of the Mercury Prize Award, being given the prize for his 2019 album Psychodrama.
His rise to mainstream popularity could affect his chances this year, with the judges not normally liking massively popular artists usually.
We're All Alone In This Together, his recent release that would be nominated for the 2022 prize, became Dave's second UK Number One Album when it was released last year.
With 74,000 album equivalent units sold in the first week, it became the biggest UK Album Launch at the time of it's release.
2021's Mercury Prize blog saw eventual winner Arlo Parks as 4/1 joint second favourite in the market, so it isn't always the favourites that win the prestigious award.
Sam Fender's odds suspended after massive Glastonbury performance
Sam Fender was 50/1 to win this year's Mercury Prize with his stunning album Seventeen Going Under going to Number One in the UK.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes who have the market up have since suspended Fender's odds in the market to win the award this year.
This may have been due to Fender's massive performance at Glastonbury where he did an hour of his hits on the Pyramid Stage.
Sam Fender won the Best British Alternative/Rock Act at this year's Brit Awards and he'll look for even more success.
