I'm going to start looking at football teams which play midweek in Champions League competitions and seeing which ones seem to find it hard to raise their games for the following weekend's league matches.

I feel that many teams engaged in these competitions can struggle in their next domestic game, especially taking into account the new format.

New Format
Teams will play eight matches in the new league phase (former group stage). They will no longer play three opponents twice – home and away – but will instead face fixtures against eight different teams, playing half of those matches at home and half of them away.

Champions League Fixtures

We often hear commentators say " the team are looking leggy after the midweek excursions" or "having only travelled back from xxx on Thursday there has been less time to prepare for this match"

Do the top Champions League teams really struggle in their next domestic game?

I feel that this could be a possible way to profit by backing against the team that played midweek in the Champions League OR you could lay the Champions League team on a betting exchange.

There also be mileage in looking towards the later domestic games when teams may have suffered injuries after such a hectic schedule.

Remember these are the top European teams so should naturally win more games domestically and will likely be favourites to win games, the key is finding value odds for the domestic teams taking them on in their next game.

Remember, some weeks following Champions League games, teams will play each other domestically, e.g., Arsenal v Manchester City, Inter Milan v AC Milan, Barcelona v Real Madrid, Bayern Munich v Dortmund.

Losing Teams
After 4 Matchdays: Of the 144 Champions League fixtures 20 Away teams and 8 Home teams lost their next domestic fixture. So it figures for future bets you should be looking for vulnerable away from home teams. Both Dortmund and Salzburg have failed to win any of their 4 domestic games.
