2025 Turners Novices Chase Preview

The Turners Novices Chase (registered as the Golden Miller) is a championship race for novices over a distance of two and a half miles on the new course.

Established in 2011, the most successful trainer in the short history is Willie Mullins with four winners and Ireland has won nine of the thirteen renewals to date.

Below we have taken a look at the Turners Novices Chase trends and statistics. Remember to bookmark the main daily racing tips page for predictions the whole year round and also give the best bookie for Cheltenham a look too.

Turners Novices Chase Information:

To see which runners the OLBG racing tipsters are tipping throughout the card that includes this race, head over to the Cheltenham tips on the day of the race, do they agree with the runners on the trend shortlist or are they predicting other runners? We cover every race at the Cheltenham Festival and below you can find links to all of the races for each of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

How competitive is the Turners Novices Chase market? When looking at the over-rounds for the last 14 renewals, the most competitive market was in 2022 when the race had an over-round of 108%. The race in 2020 was a race that was most in the bookie's favour with an over-round of 122%, whilst on average over the last 14 renewals of the Turners Novices Chase, the over-round has been 115%, which means the bookie expects to pay out £100 for every £115 which is bet.

Turners Novices Chase Trends:

Looking at the future form, is the winner worth following next time out? From the past 14 if you had followed the winner of the Turners Novices Chase next time out then you would have backed a total of 3 winners. Backing all 13 runners who have been out since to win at SP next time out, would have returned an LSP of -7.93. Remember to bookmark the racing tips page so you can get easy access to the OLBG racing picks daily.

The runner that holds the record over the past 14 renewals for the slowest time in the race was set in the 2018 renewal when Shattered Love from Gordon Elliott under the guidance of Jack Kennedy, won in a time of 5:11.80, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Vautour, trained by W P Mullins and ridden by R Walsh set the quickest time of 4:46.30 in the 2015 renewal.

These are the top three quickest-run Turners Novices Chase over the last 14 renewals:

  1. Vautour (4:46.30) in 2015
  2. Noble Prince (4:49.82) in 2011
  3. Sir Des Champs (4:52.77) in 2012
What the expert says...
Just fourteen previous renewals of this race and you ideally are looking for a runner who has a bit of proven speed at this level. There have been 132 runners in the race, 35 of those came into the Turners Novices Chase having not achieved a TS of 95+ in a previous G1 race and those have only filled 5 of the 39 placings, although that does include the 2024 winner. You probably want to set the bar a bit higher too as 11 of the 14 renewals have been won by a runner who achieved a TS of 112+ which covers 64% of the previous runners.
