Slot provider Nolimit City will be releasing the Mental 2 slot on the 25th of March 2025. I spoke to Lars Söderberg, Product Owner and Sound Designer at NLC, for a Questions and Answers interview regarding the highly anticipated sequel.
Sure to become a hit at online slot sites, Lars gives you a sneak peek as to what to expect including new bonus features and mechanics, the inspiration graphically and aurally and how it distinguishes itself versus the original.
Lars also speaks about the controversial Home and the Brave and Land of the Free slots, what other games he’ll be working on in 2025 and what his favourite slot game is.
Q: With the original game being such a hit, what can players expect from Mental 2?
LS: “I don’t want to give too much away since we like to keep things under wraps with these kinds of productions, but in short—Mental 2 is Mental on steroids, wrapped in a 2025 Nolimit City package.”
Q: Has the imagery/soundtrack differed in any way from the original game?
LS: “When Mental first dropped, it was brutal for its time. Mental 2? Even more brutal, fully in tune with 2025. We’ve seriously levelled up on this one, pushing the envelope hard. The soundtrack is of course over the top too, because it's...Mental 2. Go big or go home, right? That’s all I’ll say for now.”
Q: What new bonus features or mechanics can players expect in Mental 2?
LS: “With slot sequels, we always want to stay true to the original while making the new game feel fresh, up-to-date, and relevant. There are some killer updates—especially the new xMental feature, which can really take things to another level. The polarizing God Mode/xGod is in there too—like it or not, it’s a thrill.”
Q: What makes Mental 2 better than its predecessor?
LS: “Good question! My best answer? Play it and find out. But if I had to put it simply — Mental 2 is a more refined, more brutal version of the original. That pretty much speaks for itself.”
Q: In light of the situation in the US, how much fun was it to work on Land of the Free and Home of the Brave?
LS: “I tend to push things too far before pulling back a bit when working on themes and features, and Land of the Free and Home of the Brave were no exception. But honestly, they were an absolute blast to make. It’s impossible not to poke fun at things like this—no matter the state of the world.”
Q: What slots will you be working on in 2025?
LS: “2024 was packed, and 2025 is shaping up to be just as crazy. We just released my creations Dead, Dead or Deader and Home of the Brave, with Mental 2 dropping soon.
And of course, there’s a whole line-up of awesome creations from my talented colleagues coming throughout the year. I’ve got plenty brewing too—Flight Mode, dropping mid-2025, is one of them.”
Q: What is your favorite Nolimit City slot game and why?
LS: “Wow, that’s a tough one. I love so many of them—it’s like picking a favorite child. But Kenneth Must Die is definitely one of my top picks because of its strong Nolimit City brand identity.”
