Sixteen AFC teams across the four AFC divisions set out with the aim of initially reaching the post season play offs and then onto the AFC Championship game in late January. - The three teams in their division - twice (home & away)
- Four teams from another division in the AFC - Once

- An Inter conference match up against a team from another division who finished in the same position the previous season.
