2025 Formula 1 Constructors Championship Preview

McLaren ended their long wait for a constructors title in 2024 having last won it in 1998 under Coulthard & Häkkinen, it was their 9th championship which moved them level with Williams in second place behind Ferrari.

With the way the 2024 season ended, just fourteen points between the top two and just seventy-seven points between the top three, the closest it has been for a while, 2025 looks set to be an exciting season.

Ferrari finished the season well and will have Hamilton next season alongside Leclerc, they have not won the constructors title since 2008 (Räikkönen & Massa) so will be looking to end their long wait.

In terms of team changes, it will be as you were for 2024 except 'RB F1 Team' who will be known as 'Racing Bulls F1 Team' for this season.

Sporting Regulation Changes

For the new F1 season, one major change is the removal of the extra point for the fastest lap, introduced in 2019, this will no longer be active from 2025 onwards, a decision that has baffled a few, it made the fastest lap a more competitive feature with the extra point but it was decided to ditch it.

Looking to give young drivers more of a chance to experience F1 cars and this is done by increasing the number of times per season (per car) that a young driver must take part in a free practice from once to twice which is excellent news for those looking to break through.

Testing of previous cars (TPC) is now set to a 20-day limit with drivers only allowed to cover up to 1,000 km (620 miles) and will only be allowed on circuits featured either last season or the current season.

The way the starting grid will be decided if qualification cannot take place will be determined by the Drivers Championship standings from now on taking it out of the hands of the stewards.

Technical Regulation Changes

In terms of technical regulation changes, the minimum driver weight has increased by two kilograms to 80kg (176.4 lbs) meaning the minimum car weight (w/o fuel) has also gone up two kilograms to 800kg (1,764 lbs).

The other technical regular change is the introduction of driver cooling, which will be mandated in 2025 by the FIA, we have seen some drivers suffering from overheating, especially in Qatar which is why this has been introduced and why the weight restrictions have been increased to accommodate this change.

Max went on to win seven of the first ten races of the season and after those ten races of the season, Red Bull Racing had 330 points and were sixty points clear of Ferrari.

However, the season took a turn for the worse for Red Bull when they failed to win any of the next ten races, McLaren won four and then it was three each for Ferrari and Mercedes.

After twenty rounds, Red Bull Racing had dropped down to third with Ferrari second and McLaren taking a twenty-nine-point lead.

Red Bull Racing did pick up wins in Sao Paulo and Qatar but as we headed to Abu Dhabi for the season finale, it was a two-way fight between Ferrari and McLaren.

McLaren had the upper hand with a twenty-one-point lead over Ferrari who had Leclerc starting in P19 and despite his heroics to finish 3rd with Sainz in 2nd, it was not enough with Lando winning the race.
