Hot Tips and Strategy for Betting on Accumulators

With the advent of online betting we have seen in the last 10 years a huge increase on accumulator bets (or accas).

An Accumulator bet is a single bet composed by four or more selections, and in order to win all selections must come true.

online betting

You study the pertinent and recent football form of teams and then decide how may selections to put in your acca.

There is a full guide at the betting school on how to assess football form and that article can come in useful.

Sometimes bookies use "accumulator" also to refer to bets with two or three selections, called Double and Treble.

The main appeal of accas is that the different odds from all the selections are combined in a single bet, and this can give the bettor a potentially huge win compared to betting on a single selection.

Accas are usually very risky for the punter and a blessing for the bookmakers,

But often punters are quite happy to lose a small stake every weekend on accas for the prospect of seeing a big win, that could repay all their past losses.

Accumulator bets have become very popular in football betting, as bettors often select multiple games together from the same league or from leagues around the world..

On OLBG and the OLBG betting tips app everyone has the option to configure, build, and bet on custom accas based on OLBG members hot tips and comments.

The My Acca Builder page is fully interactive enabling you to find selections that suit your style of betting.

ACCA EXAMPLE

  1. Burnley - ManCity (2) @1.29
  2. Liverpool - Sunderland (1) @8
  3. Chelsea - Tottenham (X) @4
  4. Arsenal - Bournemouth (1) @1.45

If you bet 5£ on this Acca and all the selections come true you have:
  • Total Returns= £5 * 1.29 * 8 * 4 * 1.45 = £299.28
  • Total Profit = 299.28 - 5 = 294.28

1. Check Bookmaker Offers On Accumulators

The best way to make the most out of your accumulator bet is to check what the different bookies are offering when you place your bet.

Sometimes bookies will offer an Acca Insurance, which means money back (usually free bets) if one of your selection loses.

There is nothing more frustrating than losing an accumulator just because one of your selection didn't win and in this case, you can at least make some money back if just one of them lets you down.

Other types of offers from bookmakers on Accas are Accumulator Bonuses

These bonuses are usually offered as a percentage of your regular win, and based on the number of selections, so the more selections you have, the bigger your bonus.

Other times bookmakers offer bonuses or enhanced odds on a certain type of selection, and It is your responsibility to check websites like Oddschecker to see if your acca would benefit from enhanced odds from a particular bookie.

2. The Overround and Best Prices

The bookmaker you choose to bet with on an accumulator bet can have a huge impact on your final odds.

Bookmakers are profit-making companies and they always offer odds with a built-in winning margin, called the Overround

You can find a full explanation of the overround by visiting the OLBG Betting School.

This margin can be defined as the mathematical advantage of the bookies and makes sure that they will collect more money than they will have to pay out to customers.

Here is an example of an overround on a single 1X2 result.

This was a match between Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid

  • Home: 5.50 (18.18%)
  • Draw: 4.33 (23.09%)
  • Away: 1.60 (62.5%)

Book %: 103.78%

Overround %: 3.78%

Now, if we want to calculate the overround of the odds offered by a certain bookmaker there are several websites where you just insert the odds and they will tell you straight away how much in percentage is the winning margin built-in by that bookie.

Of course you should carefully choose the right bookmaker for your Acca, as an overround between 0% - 3% can make a great difference compared to another which is, for example,>7%.

3. Study The Different Kind Of Accumulators

acca 7.00 Usually accas start from at least four selections called four-fold accumulator for four selections, five-fold accumulator for five selections, and so on.

Bookies also offer some particular types of accas where the punter can have some kind of return if just one selection wins.

Of course in these cases to get the maximum possible winnings all the selections must win.

Trixie

A Trixie consists of 4 bets involving three selections from different events: 3 doubles and 1 treble
A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return.

Patent

A Patent consists of 7 bets involving 3 selections from different events: 3 singles, 3 doubles, and 1 treble
You need one successful selection to guarantee a return.

Yankee

A Yankee consists of 11 bets involving 4 selections from different events: 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 fourfold accumulator.
A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return.

Lucky 15

A Lucky 15 consists of 15 bets involving 4 selections in different events: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and 1 accumulator.
You need only 1 winner to guarantee a return. In the event of 1 winner and 3 losers, the odds for the winner are doubled.

This type of bet is often the target of bookmaker bonuses, the most common of which are an all winner bonus, a one loser bonus, and a one winner consolation bonus.

Bonuses typically take the form of a % increase in returns or increased odds in the case of the one winner consolation.

Super Yankee

A Super Yankee (or Canadian) consists of 26 bets involving 5 selections from different events: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-fold accumulators and 1 fivefold accumulator.

'All winners', 'one loser', and 'one winner' are the scenarios that most bookmakers apply a bonus to - each-way bets are usually excluded from this.

Heinz

A Heinz consists of 57 bets involving 6 selections from different events: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-fold accumulators, 6 five-fold accumulator and 1 six-fold accumulator.

A minimum of 2 of your selections must be successful to get a return.

Bonus scenarios include: 'all winners', 'one loser', and 'one winner' and usually involve either a % bonus to returns or a multiplier to the odds.

Super Heinz

A Super Heinz consists of 120 bets involving 7 selections from different events: 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 four-fold accumulators, 21 fivefold accumulators 7 six-fold accumulators and 1 seven-fold accumulator.

Goliath

A Goliath consists of 247 bets involving 8 selections from different events: 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 four-fold accumulators, 56 fivefold accumulators, 28 sixfold accumulators, 8 seven-fold accumulators, and 1 eight-fold accumulator.

You need a minimum of 2 of your selections to be successful to get a return.

4. Reduced Risk Accumulators

As mentioned above, accas can be risky for the punter so it's important to minimise that risk as much as possible in order to improve the chances of the big win.
One way to do this is to ensure you are getting the best odds on your selections. Some websites and apps give you the chance not only to check the best prices offered by the most important bookmakers but also to enable you to check live if your selections are winning or not.

OLBG, Betbrain, and Oddschecker offer very good odds comparison tools.

The other way to minimise risk while betting on accas is to follow profitable tipsters, especially when a number of successful tipsters back the same selection without much opposition.

The My Acca Builder feature on the OLBG sports betting tips app creates an Acca populated with the best OLBG members' tips according to the user's input.

The user selects what sports to include, the number of selections (1-12), and whether the Acca can include bets for today, tomorrow, or both days.

This video shows just how easy it is to build an outstanding acca using My Acca Builder.

5. No-Risk Accumulators - Surely Not

When we place a bet we know that the bet could either win or lose, but surely there is no such thing as no risk?

Well if you could take advantage of a free sports bet no deposit, then the accumulator, or treble, or any multiple bet would certainly be no risk.

You would join the bookmaker having read the terms and conditions of the no deposit sports bet, satisfied that you didn't need to open your wallet to get the free acca bet.

You would be limited on the amount you could bet on the Acca by the amount of the no deposit free bet, no bookie is going to give you a blank cheque as they would go out of business.

However to receive a completely free bet is rare, and we as punters need as much on our side as possible.

We know in most instances you have to deposit XXXX and then you receive XXXX when you don't even need to deposit anything that is a real bonus.

Many bookies are introducing this no deposit bet as they look to attract new customers to their sportsbooks, casinos, and betting apps.

I would hope that this bookmaker no deposit trend continues, the more who introduce this style of sign-up offer will hopefully kick start even more bookies to offer it.
