Ben Stokes is the 11/2 favourite to win the Sports Personality of the Year award ahead of this year's Ashes
England's Test Cricket captain Ben Stokes is the 11/2 favourite with bookies to win this year's Sports Personality of the Year award ahead of this Summer's home Ashes series.
Stokes won the SPOTY award back in 2019 after a tremendous year saw him win the ICC Cricket World Cup as well as a batting masterclass at Headingley in the Ashes.
Fast forward four years later and we've got another Ashes and World Cup year on the way and it's no surprise to see Stokes as the favourite to be crowned SPOTY again.
Paddy Power say there's a 15% chance that Stokes wins the award with fellow cricketer Joe Root the third favourite in the market at 15/2.
2023 Sports Personality of the Year Winner | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Ben Stokes | 11/2 | 15.4% |
Lewis Hamilton | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Joe Root | 15/2 | 11.8% |
George Russell | 9/1 | 10.0% |
Tyson Fury | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Two-time SPOTY winner Lewis Hamilton is second favourite in the betting despite mixed start to F1 season
Lewis Hamilton remains second favourite in the betting market to win the SPOTY award despite a mixed start to the Formula 1 season.
There have been three races in the season so far and Hamilton sits 4th in the World Drivers' Championship standings with two 5th place finishes and a podium this season.
Hamilton is already more than 30 points behind Max Verstappen at the top of the standings and it will take a lot for him to get a win this season in a struggling Mercedes car.
