What the expert says...
The Safekeep has been building momentum for weeks, and it’s no surprise to see it lead the market. But there’s depth to this shortlist and Elizabeth Strout’s consistency and Miranda July’s originality both pose a real challenge.

Strong Contenders in a Bold Shortlist

The 2025 shortlist, described by judges as “bold, brilliant and beautifully crafted,” includes works spanning memoir-style fiction, historical narratives, and inventive literary forms.

Chair of judges Monica Ali praised the authors for their “originality, resonance, and emotional truth.”

Second favourite in the latest betting market is Elizabeth Strout’s Tell Me Everything at 3/1.

A master of quiet emotional depth, Strout is a former Pulitzer winner whose work consistently lands critical acclaim.

Her place near the top of the odds reflects both her pedigree and storytelling power.
