  • Pietro Parolin is now the 9/4 favourite in the Next Pope betting, overtaking Luis Antonio Tagle.
  • Tagle drifts to 3/1 after previously leading the market earlier this week.
  • Turkson and Zuppi both priced at 6/1, with Sarah and Pizzaballa seen as longer shots at 8/1.

Pietro Parolin Takes Over as Favourite to Become Next Pope

The Next Pope odds have shifted significantly since our last update, with Cardinal Pietro Parolin now emerging as the new frontrunner in the betting.

The Vatican Secretary of State is now on his own at the top of the market at 9/4 with UK Betting Sites, overtaking Luis Antonio Tagle, who was joint favourite earlier this week but now drifts slightly to 3/1.

This marks the first major odds reversal since the passing of Pope Francis, with Parolin's deep diplomatic background, close Vatican ties and global appeal likely factors driving this market movement.

William Hill's latest odds have changed things right around with new entries creeping up into contention to become the next Pope.

What the expert says...
The move to make Parolin the new favourite reflects both his deep roots within the Vatican and his status as a diplomatic heavyweight. While Tagle still has strong support, bettors may now be looking for someone who can unify more traditional elements within the Church.

Market Movement Since Our Last Update

In our previous article earlier this week, Tagle was joint favourite with a 36.4% implied chance.

But the latest shift sees Parolin now carrying more support in the market. a reflection of growing sentiment that the Cardinals may opt for a pragmatic and diplomatic leader in a post-Francis world.

Tagle remains a strong contender, but this move may indicate questions over whether his progressive vision will resonate across the full College of Cardinals.

Turkson, Zuppi & Outsiders Still in the Frame

Peter Turkson and Matteo Zuppi are both priced at 6/1, seen as serious candidates with broad international support.

Turkson, from Ghana, would become the first African pope in modern times, while Zuppi is gaining traction as a bridge-building figure within the Italian clergy.

At 8/1, Cardinal Robert Sarah brings a more traditionalist appeal, while Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, is viewed as an emerging outsider with symbolic regional significance.
