Francis or Leo are Betting Sites Favourites at +300 for the Next Pope's Papal Name

There is much speculation about who might be the next Pope and betting sites are offering odds on who that might be. That could be quite a tricky market to predict and something that could be easier might betting on the Papal name chosen.

Pope's Papal name Betting Odds

The process for choosing the Papal name for a Pope comes down to the Pope himself once elected. It is accepted that Peter was the first Pope and that since John II, each Pope has chosen their own Papal name based on a previous one they have most admired or wished to emulate.

The current Pope's Papal Name is Francis, before him, we had a Benedict and the two John-Pauls, between 1978 and 2005, the first surviving only 33 days in the role.

Skipping Paul VI and John XXIII prior to them, we come to the last Pius, Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli who reigned as Pope between 1939 and 1958, and whose Papal name is among the favorite to be chosen by the next elected head of the Catholic Church
