Gary Oldman is the brand-new favourite to play Albus Dumbledore in new HBO Harry Potter series
English actor Gary Oldman is now the evens favourite to star as Albus Dumbledore in the new HBO Harry Potter series after speaking about the new show in recent weeks.
Oldman starred as Sirius Black in the original Harry Potter movies in a role which although is seen as iconic he has himself said that "he wasn't in it enough".
The godfather of Harry Potter will likely be played by a different actor now but speaking to IndieWire at the Emmys last month Oldman said “maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.”
Now the latest betting odds say that Oldman is the evens favourite to star as the Hogwarts headmaster in the HBO series but he said that he has yet to be approached around any role.

Frost has been favourite for a long time now and that doesn't look like changing ahead of next year's production.
We should start to see the first actors and actresses announced early into the new year ahead of the series kicking off.

What do we know about the HBO Harry Potter series so far?
The HBO Harry Potter series has now put out an open casting call for its Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger ahead of filming for the series.
Dates say that the actors must be between 9 and 11 in April 2025 which looks likely that this is when filming will start for the opening season of the show.
2026 looks like it'll be the date in which the series airs for the first time with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirming that news earlier this year.
