England Women's forward Beth Mead is now 7/1 to be the Sports Personality of the Year
England Women's forward Beth Mead is now 7/1 to be the Sports Personality of the Year after a tremendous start to the Women's Euros has seen her popularity soar.
Mead has been England's best player so far at the Euros and that has made Bookmakers put her straight into second favourite in the market for the SPOTY award.
In the space of just four days, Paddy Power have gone from 25/1 to 7/1 for Mead to be crowned the Sports Personality of the Year for 2022.
2022 Sports Personality of the Year Award | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Ronnie O'Sullivan | 11/4 | 26.7% |
Beth Mead | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Harry Kane | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Matt Fitzpatrick | 12/1 | 7.7% |
The 2022 Sports Personality of the Year award has a provisional date of 18th December but that clashes with the World Cup Final.
BBC bosses therefore are reportedly scrambling for a new date with reports that it may be held in the midweek before Christmas.
Ronnie O'Sullivan still favourite for the award at 11/4
Snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan is still the favourite for the SPOTY award at 11/4 after his World Snooker Championship win back in May.
O'Sullivan produced an absolute masterclass over Judd Trump to win the Championship and since then he's been favourite for the SPOTY award.
The Rocket will be the oldest winner of the award if he does get awarded it at the age of 46, with the previous oldest winner Golfer Dai Rees aged 44.
Surprisingly it would also be the first time that Ronnie O'Sullivan wins the award despite his personality in Snooker being part of his popularity.
Golfer Matt Fitzpatrick was the most recent market mover
Golfer Matt Fitzpatrick was the biggest market mover in recent weeks after his US Open victory saw his odds plunge for the award.
Fitzpatrick was installed as fourth favourite for this year's SPOTY award after that win and his odds have stayed at 14/1 since then.
The Sheffield born star won the US Open to the delight of British fans and this has increased his popularity massively.
Fitzpatrick couldn't capitalise on that success at The Open this previous weekend with a T21 finish.
