What the expert says...
Players must have been aged 21 or under as of 1 July preceding season start to qualify
Since 2021 the voting for the PFA Young Player of the Year award voting has changed with the eligible players needing to be 21 or under as of 1 July before the start of the upcoming season.
Previously we've seen the age limit at 23 which has caused criticism due to 24-year-old players being eligible for the award by the time the season finished.
These rules are the reason why Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is not in the running for the award, having turned 22 back in May last year.
Gravenberch though is eligible for the Premier League's Young Player of the Season award which is presented to the best player aged 23 or younger.

Mo Salah favourite for the main PFA Player of the Year
Liverpool forward Mo Salah already seems to be a shoe-in for the main PFA Player of the Year award with bookmakers slashing his odds into 2/7 to win.
Salah has been flying for the Reds this year and is a key reason why they are 1/4 for the Premier League title with 21 goals and 13 assists in the league so far.
There are still 15 games left in the Premier League season and Salah shows no signs of stopping with 30 goals surely the aim for the forward with such a large number of matches to play.
