Olly Alexander 2/1 favourite to be next Doctor Who
Years and Years singer Olly Alexander has been high up on the 'Next Doctor Who' market for months and months, but now see's himself as the clear favourite with betting sites for the role.
This comes as Russell T Davies returns to the show as show-runner.
Alexander has previously worked with Davies on the show It's A Sin, which won the Best New Drama award at the National TV Awards earlier this September.
Current Doctor Jodie Whittaker admitted to still being in denial about leaving the role and still won't discuss her departure, which she announced earlier this year.
Russell T Davies points towards Alexander
The return of the influential Russell T Davies to Doctor Who brings a fresh approach to the show after recent years have shown a decline in ratings.
Rumours of a possible cancellation had been whispered at the start of this year, but the return of Davies, who was behind the revival of the Doctor in 2005, brings a new light to the show and betting on the next Dr. Who has ramped up
With Russell T Davies making the show It's A Sin, exploring the Aids/HIV crisis of the 1980's, a lot of people have debated that star of the show Olly Alexander will follow Davies and become the next Doctor.
This is partly the reason why Alexander is as short as 2/1 with bookmakers to be the next Doctor, but Alexander's manager recently released a statement denying his arrival on the show.
"Even though Olly is often contacted by the Cybermen, I'm afraid I have to exterminate this speculation," he said.
Kris Marshall still second favourite in next Doctor Who market
Actor Kris Marshall is the second favourite in the next Doctor Who market after only featuring in the market in recent months.
Marshall, who is known for the series' My Family and Death in Paradise, has currently been given a 15.4% chance of being the next Doctor by bookmakers.
Michaela Coel also features in the market at odds of 8/1, with the 'I May Destroy You' star given a chance with bookies to be a consecutive woman Doctor.
The obvious novelty stars feature in the market too, with Alan Carr given odds of 100/1 and Katie Price also in the market at 200/1, although we'd love to see either of those to as the Doctor for just a week or two.
