Who will be the next Pope?

The current Pope is Francis who was elected to be the Supreme Pontiff in March 2013 when Pope Benedict XV1 resigned. 

Bookies are giving odds on who the next Pope will be after speculations grows on the 85-year-old leaving his role after the cancellation of an African trip in July 2022.

How is the Next Pope chosen?

The next Pope will be chosen by the College of Cardinals, the most senior officials in the Church, who are usually appointed by the Pope himself.

A papal conclave is the official name of the meeting of those Cardinals with the last one taking place on the 12th March 2013 til the 13th March 2013.

The election process usually takes days, but in past centuries it has taken weeks and months.

The Next Pope is chosen through a Papal Conclave, which is the meeting of the College of Cardinals to vote on who will be chose as the Pope.
