Ukraine into 2/1 favourites for Eurovision
The recent events in Ukraine have seen the country come in to 17/10 from 40/1 with bookmakers for this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
A massive drop in the odds has come about since Russia launched an attack on the country last week.
That also meant that Russia were excluded from this year's event following the invasion by the country.
Eurovision Song Contest Winner | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Ukraine | 17/10 | 37% |
Italy | 11/4 | 26.7% |
Sweden | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Greece | 12/1 | 7.7% |
United Kingdom | 16/1 | 5.9% |
Poland | 18/1 | 5.3% |
Netherlands | 22/1 | 4.3% |
Ukraine's original entrant for this year, Alina Pash, withdrew from this contest last week facing scrutiny over an alleged trip she made to Crimea in 2015.
Hip-Hop trio Kalush Orchestra are the new entrants for the country with their song 'Stefania' a tribute to the mothers of Ukraine.
Russia excluded from Eurovision this year
Russia have been excluded from this year's Eurovision Song Contest "in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine".
That's according to the European Broadcasting Union, who produce Eurovision each year.
The announcement followed several other cancellations across Sport, with the 2022 Champions League Final pulled from the country and moved to Paris.
Formula 1 have also cancelled the Russian GP this year, which was due to take place in Sochi in September.
Italy second favourites for this year's Song Contest
Italy are the 11/4 second favourites for Eurovision this year, looking to follow on from last year's success.
Måneskin won last year's event for Italy with song 'Zitti e Buoni' and that win meant that the show will be hosted in Turin, Italy this year.
Mahmood & BLANCO's 'Brividi' will be looking to win the contest for them for a second year in a row and is a completely different song to last year's entrant.
The United Kingdom are 16/1 to win this year's Eurovision Song Contest which looks unlikely after last year's nil points.
Nil Points for United Kingdom again this year is 6/1 with bookmakers expecting there's a fair chance of that happening again this year.
