Has now dropped back to the same mark he won off when winning the Grimthorpe at this track. Dropping back to 3M this time. He has a huge weight today, but as mentioned above, he won the Grimthorpe back in March shouldering this type of weight. Admittedly, that race kind of fell apart with all barring this fella Some Scope finishing the race. The other 8 runners all pulled up in what turned out to be a gruelling race in the conditions. He's had 2 runs so far this season, finishing 4th on both occasions. Both stronger races than this one. He didn't disgrace himself in either of those runs. The reappearance run has been franked since with Broadway Boy (just 3L in front of him) subsequently finishing 2nd behind Kandoo Kid in the Coral Gold Cup (Hennessey). He's won over this trip, so dropping back to 3M is no issue for him. If he gets himself into a nice jumping rhythm, he could prove a tough nut to crack.

Gaboriot has won 7 of 22 chase outings (10 wins from 31 races overall) and has seemingly got better with age. Only eight years old. Seven length winner of a handicap chase here in November 2023 in a tremendous season in 2023-24 when he won five of seven starts. Very solid effort when third of thirteen on return at Aintree when upped to Class 2 competition at a trip likely on the short side. That form was truly franked yesterday with King Turgeon's win at Cheltenham. Gaboriot only raised 1lb for the effort and he looks to meet all of these on good handicap terms. Lovely jumper and stayer who appeals as a bet at 4-1 in Doncaster's feature Chase over 3 miles. Henry Brooke (SR 12%) rides for Ollie Greenall & Josh Guerriero (SR 16%). Gaboriot looks well placed in this race. Soft ground is ideal.

Slightly disappointing return to action last time, but he'll have needed it. Honeyball said it was 'run like a hurdles race as nothing got into it,' and I have to agree. This has been the plan, and they think he'll be bang on track for it. Very solid form last season after winning this off a lower weight, but he has earned his rating, now only 4lbs above his Coral Trophy win and equal to his good 3rd at Aintree when hampered and not a clear run. Remains to be seen if he's got the mettle to win it again; however, he is rightfully fav. Gabriot could be well handicapped, but I'm not sure how much weight can really be put on the form behind King Turgeon with a few unfit horses behind. And whilst surely Does He Know will have his day again, he's looked labored under high weights the last twice.

Runner-up in his last 2 starts, most recently over this trip at Bangor last month. Remains on the same mark of 135 but has Jack Hogan in the saddle today whose 3 pound allowance could prove to be valuable.
