Paulo Fonseca current bookies favourite to be the next Newcastle manager
Newcastle are looking for a new manager after Steve Bruce's tenure was "mutually" ended on Wednesday morning.
Bruce had been expected to leave for the past week since Newcastle were taken over by a Saudi backed consortium and he was as short as 1/20 with bookies since then to leave Newcastle.
The Toon's owners finally pulled the trigger on Wednesday morning and now are looking for a new manager to lead a new era at the club.
The market admittedly has been all over the place at betting sites, with at least 3 new favourites in the market over the last week.
Paulo Fonseca though has recently been backed into favourite at 10/11, but was even shorter at 2/7 yesterday afternoon.
The drift shows that bookmakers think there is a 25% less chance than yesterday that Fonseca takes over at St James' Park.

Former favourite Eddie Howe now out to 7/1 to take over
Eddie Howe has become a name that seems to be linked with every job that comes available in English football and it's been no different with the Newcastle job.
Howe was linked to the Newcastle job by Sky Sports over the last week, with reports suggesting that he was in talks with the new Newcastle owners about taking over.
This saw Howe go into 3/1 favourite for the job at one point with bookmakers, but he has since drifted in the market out to 7/1.
This shows that betting sites feel that he now only has a 12.5% chance of taking over at St James' Park compared to Paulo Fonseca's current 52.4% chance according to the odds.
Next Newcastle Manager | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Paulo Fonseca | 10/11 | 52.4% |
Lucien Favre | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Eddie Howe | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Roberto Martinez | 9/1 | 10% |
Newcastle are 6/4 favourites to sign more players than anyone else in the January Transfer Window
With a reported transfer kitty of £200m to spend this window, in line with financial fair play, it's fair to say that Newcastle are expected to do business this January.
Bookmakers are giving odds of 6/4 that Newcastle make more transfers than any other Premier League team in January.
The amount of players that they will be linked with over the next few months is endless, with rumours already starting to come out from different newspapers and bookmakers are latching onto odds for those players too.
Jesse Lingard is the lowest price player to join Newcastle in January at odds of 4/1.
Blackburn forward and new Chile sensation Ben Brereton Diaz is also featured in the market at odds of 8/1 to sign for the Toon.
What is evident to see is that it's going to be an interesting few months for the Geordie faithful with the start of the rollercoaster about to kick off an eventful era at the club.
