Eddie Howe bookmakers favourite to be the next Newcastle manager

A whirlwind 48 hours has seen Eddie Howe become favourite for the Newcastle managerial job with bookmakers

Unai Emery looked set to be taking over at the Toon, but a dramatic u-turn has seen him staying at Villarreal.

In a statement posted on Emery's Twitter account, the Spaniard stated that he was "grateful for the interest of a great club (Newcastle), but even more grateful to be here (Villarreal)".

This will be a setback to Newcastle's owners who thought they had a man in place to lead into a new era at the club.

Attention now looks to turn to Eddie Howe, who was reportedly one of two managers that had an interview with the board and the interview was stated to have gone well.

Betting sites suggest that Eddie Howe is the leading candidate at odds on of 8/13.

Eddie Howe is the bookmakers favourite to be the next Newcastle manager at 8/13, with the new Toon owners reportedly impressed with Howe's interview with the board.

Newcastle expected to have a busy January Transfer Window

Newcastle are at a point where they're itching for a few transfers to make their squad better than it currently is.

Bookmakers are giving odds of 6/4 that Newcastle sign more players than any other Premier League team in the transfer window and it's no surprise that is the case.

With a rumoured transfer budget of £200m, whoever the new manager is will have a kitty that will make them competitive in the Premier League.

Jesse Lingard is the most popular player in the betting market to sign for the Toon in January at odds of 4/1.

Aaron Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho and Ben Brereton Diaz all feature in the betting market to sign for Newcastle in January, so it's clear to see that there will be a lot of movement in January in and out of the Toon.

Newcastle are 5/4 to be relegated from the Premier League this season, so it's clear to see that whoever does come into the club has a job on their hands.

To sign for Newcastle in January Odds Implied Probability
Jesse Lingard 4/1 20%
Aaron Ramsey 5/1 16.7%
Philippe Coutinho 5/1 16.7%
Donny van de Beek 7/1 12.5%
Ben Brereton Diaz 8/1 11.1%

Kevin Keegan 150/1 to make dramatic return to Newcastle

With the drama that tends to follow Newcastle over the last 20 years, it'd be no surprise to see a club legend like Kevin Keegan return to the club.

Keegan has revealed that he'd had a "telephone call with a couple of members of the consortium" who have taken over at the club.

At odds of 150/1 it's clear that bookmakers expect there to be no chance that Keegan takes over at the Toon, but the pure romance of a big figure at the club taking them from relegation fodder to European candidates with such a big transfer budget is clear to see.

With betting sites giving odds of 10/1 that Newcastle win the Premier League by the end of the 2024/25 season, there seems to be a chance that Newcastle become one of the powerhouses of English football in the next few years.

Kevin Keegan is 150/1 to make a dramatic return to Newcastle, just weeks after reportedly having phone calls with members of the consortium which has taken over at the club!
