Mark Bonner is the early favourite to return to Cambridge United

Betting odds are now given on the next Cambridge United manager and bookmakers have installed former boss Mark Bonner as the 2/1 favourite to make a return to the club nearly 450 days after he left.

Bonner was sacked as Cambridge boss back in November 2023 after almost four years in charge before a spell as Gillingham manager then seeing him sacked in January this year.

With the English manager free without a club, it may well make perfect sense for him to head back to the Abbey for another stint in charge of the U's.

BetVictor's latest betting market now gives an implied probability of 33.3% that he takes over as Cambridge boss once again.

Garry Monk sacked after dismal spell in charge of the club

Garry Monk was dismissed as boss of Cambridge after a run which saw them win just one game in 13 in the league and sees them sit at the foot of the table.

Monk took over in March and kept the club up last season but their recent form has been a big struggled and they are now eight points off safety in League One.

Owner Paul Barry said, "In the end, the table does not lie and it is the right moment to make a change. There are 15 games remaining, and we must continue to fight together to preserve our League One status over the coming weeks."
