Wayne Rooney was sacked on Tuesday after just 15 games in charge in what was a controversial appointment after the sacked of John Eustace.

Rooney was in charge for just 83 days and his management saw the Blues go from sixth in the Championship table down to 20th after their 3-0 loss to Leeds on Monday.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Cooper is the early favourite to take over at St Andrew's with bookies putting him at 2/1 in the market to replace Rooney.

Cooper is followed by Jesse Marsch and John Eustace in the betting odds with the Birmingham board needing to make the right appointment this time around.

Eustace was controversially sacked by the Blues to be replaced by Rooney but he is now joint third favourite in the market to make a shock return.

Wayne Rooney sacked on Tuesday after miserable spell as manager

Wayne Rooney's 83-day spell in charge of Birmingham City came to an abrupt end on Tuesday after he was sacked by the Blues board.

Rooney's reign at Birmingham was disappointing to say the least, with 9 defeats in 15 games seeing them slide down the table week-by-week.

The Blues American owners appointed Rooney to try and boost the club's impact globally and they now have a big task on their hands in getting a suitable replacement.

Whoever comes in has a transfer window at least to get the players that they want and try and get Birmingham back up the table.
