History
The Hot Dog Eating Competition at Nathans has been running since the 1960s with the first taking place in 1967 when Walter Paul managed to eat 127 in 60 minutes, although conflicting news stories make these early competitions somewhat dubious in their accuracy.
What we can be certain of is the complete dominance not only of the men's competition but also the Women's, with current champion Michelle Lesco, dethroning Miki Sudo last year after he held the title for eight consecutive events.
Joey's Record
When Chestnut won his first contest in 2007 he ate 66 Hot Dogs in 12 minutes, the following year the contest was standardized to a 10 minute contest and has remained since.
In 2008 his ate 59 to draw and had a 5 hot Dog eat-off to win, which he managed to devour in just 50 seconds!!
Since then, Joey Chestnut has won each year, generally increasing the number of hot dogs he has eaten, and in 2021, managed a world record 76
No wonder betting sites give him a huge 97% probability and odds of just 1.03 that he will once again be crowned champion in 2022
