Vincent Kompany takes over at Burnley with the job vacant for the last couple of months
Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is back in England with the Burnley manager's job.
Kompany has been manager of Belgian side Anderlecht, but left his role there to take over the Clarets.
The Belgian boss was 11/10 favourite to take over at Burnley last month and the bookmakers were right with Kompany becoming Burnley manager on Tuesday.
A massive 14 players left the club last week as their contracts ran down, leaving Kompany with a big hole in his squad ahead of pre-season beginning next month.
Vincent Kompany is the new manager of Burnley after weeks of rumours around his imminent appointment. As we reported last month, he was 11/10 favourite at that point and the bookmakers odds proved right with the Belgian taking over at Turf Moor.

Burnley are 6th favourites at 10/1 to win the Championship this season
The Championship is arguably one of the most competitive leagues across Europe and it looks to be no different next season.
Burnley were one of the three relegated sides from the Premier League last season, but find themselves 6th favourites to win the division.
At odds of 10/1, Watford and Norwich are both above them in the market despite both being relegated alongside the Clarets.
Championship Winners | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Watford | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Norwich | 13/2 | 13.3% |
Middlesbrough | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Sheffield United | 8/1 | 11.1% |
West Brom | 8/1 | 11.1% |
Burnley | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Watford are the favourites to go straight back up after retaining key players in their squad for the new season.
The appointment of young boss Rob Edwards has also proved a big positive after impressing as manager of Forest Green Rovers last season, achieving promotion to League One for the first time in the club's history.
Watford are already the Hot Tip from expert tipsters on our site to win the Championship.
Burnley are 8/1 to be relegated this season
Despite being 6th favourites to win the league in the new season, Burnley are actually shorter odds to be relegated with bookies.
There are 14 clubs ahead of them in this betting market, but it shows that Vincent Kompany may not have it straight forward in his opening year at the Clarets.
Rotherham are favourites to be relegated from the Championship this season after promotion back into the league after a year in League One.
Last season's League One champions Wigan are 7/2 to go straight back down.
Burnley are 8/1 to be relegated from the Championship in Vincent Kompany's first season at the club, which is shorter odds than them actually winning the division!
