Lionel Messi is now as short as 1/14 to win the Ballon d'Or later this year for the 8th time in his career
Lionel Messi is now just 1/14 to win the Ballon d'Or for the eight time in his career following his World Cup win with Argentina back in December followed by success in America.
Messi has now moved to Inter Miami and is playing football in the MLS and he started his spell at the club by winning the Leagues Cup which features all MLS and Liga MX clubs.
That World Cup win and his fantastic start to life in Miami has seen his odds shorten even further to 1/14 to win the Ballon d'Or with UK Betting Sites slashing his odds to win.
Paddy Power's odds now say that there's a 93% chance of him winning the Ballon d'Or this year as he goes up against Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
2023 Ballon d'Or Winner | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Lionel Messi | 1/14 | 93.3% |
Erling Haaland | 13/2 | 13.3% |
Kevin De Bruyne | 80/1 | 1.2% |
Rodri | 80/1 | 1.2% |
What the expert says...
Lionel Messi has now been backed into 1/6 to win the Ballon d'Or after starting off perfectly at MLS side Inter Miami!
Erling Haaland is second favourite and won the UEFA Men's Player of the Year earlier this week
Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is the second favourite in the betting market to win the Ballon d'Or with the latest odds suggesting that it's going to be a two horse race.
Haaland was awarded the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award on Thursday night after a stunning season saw him win the treble for Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker has been towards the top of the betting market for the Ballon d'Or all year but his odds have now drifted out to 13/2 to win the award.
Lionel Messi's change in form since joining Inter Miami alongside that World Cup win has seen his odds tumble down further and further each week.
We take a look at the record winners of the award
Since 1956, the Ballon d'Or award has been annually presented by the French news magazine France Football.

The all-time record holders for the Ballon d'Or are as follows:
- Lionel Messi with 7 wins
