Heading to the casino is a popular activity for groups partying abroad. That’s why we’ve delved into the data to determine which European cities have the most casinos.

Bratislava, Slovakia - 96.76 casinos per million people

With almost 100 casinos per million people, Bratislava takes the top spot as Europe’s casino capital. In total, the capital of Slovakia has 41 casinos, equating to almost 96.76 when compared against its population. Across Bratislava are two casino hotels, 781 slot machines and 44 table games. 

Prague, Czechia - 51.48 casinos per million people

In second place is Prague, with just over 50 casinos per million people. Czechia’s capital boasts a total of 60 casinos, more than any other European city on our list. Casinos in Prague boast over 1,000 slot machines, six casino hotels, and 95 table games. 

Valencia, Spain - 38.07 casinos per million people

Our top three is completed by Valencia, with almost 40 casinos per million people. There are a total of 31 casinos in Valencia, home to over 400 slot machines, 85 table games, and 20 poker tables. Valencia’s total number of casinos is also the second highest in Spain, ahead of Barcelona and Madrid.

Europe’s party capital is Bratislava, with a nightlife score of 8.42 out of 10

Bratislava, Slovakia - 8.42 nightlife score

The city with the best nightlife is Bratislava, with a nightlife score of 8.42 out of 10. The Slovakian capital is a consistently high scorer across our categories, ranking especially well for its Airbnb, domestic beer, and taxi costs. 

Prague, Czechia - 8.26 nightlife score

While Prague is the city with the second best nightlife in Europe, with a nightlife score of 8.26 out of 10. Prague boasts some of the cheapest domestic beer in Europe and plenty of bars and casinos and in addition, it is also one of the safest cities on the list. 

Krakow, Spain - 7.41 nightlife score

Our top three is completed by Krakow, with a nightlife score of 7.41 out of 10 and although the Polish city is low when it comes to casino’s – in fact, there is only a single location to spin the roulette table, this is outweighed by affordable accommodation and beer prices.

In second place is Istanbul, where the average price per night for an Airbnb is £66.76 (€76.25). Istanbul is Europe’s most populous city and the only city in the world to lie across two continents. Istanbul is diverse in culture and nightlife, from rooftop bars to indie clubs.

The capital of Slovakia completes our top three, where the average price per night for an Airbnb is just under £70 (€80). If you want to experience the nightlife here, ensure your Airbnb is around Bratislava’s Old Town for the best experience. 

Prague has the cheapest domestic beer in Europe, at £2.01 (€2.39) per pint

Local beverages can often be the catalyst to enjoying the nightlife. However, it can become expensive. To help you get your money’s worth, we’ve revealed the European cities with the cheapest domestic beer. 

Prague, Czechia - £2.01 (€2.39) average cost of domestic beer

In first place is Prague, where domestic beer costs just £2.01 (€2.39) per pint. The home of many a weekend jolly to tourists all across the continent tops the list and for those looking for the cheapest pint, this is the place to go. 

The most well-known beer local to the Czech capital is Staropramen, typically served in a tankard glass. Other popular choices include Černý, a dark lager, and Ležák, a lager made from aromatic hops. 

Bratislava, Slovakia - £2.10 (€2.50) average cost of domestic beer

While the honours of second place are shared by two capital cities. The first of those is Bratislava, a city that has a strong beer culture, with the first mention of beer production dating back to 1477. 

The most popular beer in Slovakia is Zlatý Bažant, brewed in Hurbanovo, a small town southeast of the capital. Although it is not brewed in the capital, the large population of gold pheasants in Bratislava inspired the name of this beer. 

Budapest, Hungary - £2.10 (€2.50) average cost of domestic beer

Our top three is completed by the Hungarian capital of Budapest which has its beer priced at the same as its Czechia counterparts. Another Eastern European country with a rich tradition of drinking beer and when on your travels, expect to find brands such as Dreher and Soproni in the majority of watering holes.

Taking the top spot is Istanbul, with a taxi fare of £0.39 (€0.46) per kilometre. In terms of area, Istanbul is one of the biggest cities in Europe, at over 2,000 square miles. Walking from bar to bar may not be the best option, given its size. Thankfully, Istanbul’s taxi fares are the cheapest in Europe, meaning you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy the different places.

Lisbon, Portugal - £0.67 (€0.80) average taxi fare per km

Second in our list is Lisbon, with an average taxi fare of £0.67 (€0.80) per kilometre. Regarding area, Lisbon is the smallest city in our top three at just under 40 square miles. As it’s not the largest city, you could get away with walking. However, for longer distances, the cheap fare and small size mean you won’t have to break the bank to reach your next destination.

In joint-third place is Warsaw, with an average taxi fare of £0.80 (€0.95) per kilometre. The city area of the capital of Poland is around 200 square miles, making taxis a vital part of your transportation. Depending on the time of year, it can also get quite cold - another reason why taxis are a sensible choice.

Sharing joint-third place with Warsaw is fellow Polish town Krakow and with this city being ranked third overall when it comes to nightlife score, the cost of transportation has also played a considerable factor in such a high overall position. 

Munich is the safest city in Europe, with a safety score of 79.0

It’s important to stay safe when partying in another country. That’s why we discovered the European cities with the best safety scores. 

Munich, Germany - 79.0 safety score

In first place is Munich, with a safety score of 79.0. Munich is a very busy city. It is Germany's third most populated city and attracts more than 6 million visitors annually. Despite its large population, Munich has the lowest crime rate in Germany. 

Bern, Switzerland - 77.6 safety score

Finding themselves as the second safest city in Europe is Bern. With a safety score of 77.6, the Swiss location is a well-lit city with a low crime rate. Particularly in the city centre, the streets are well occupied, with public transport running until the early hours of the morning. 

Zurich, Switzerland - 77.0 safety score

Our top three is completed by Zurich, with a safety score of 77.0 Similarly to Bern, Zurich’s crime rate is low, and the city is considered safe to walk around at night. It’s an easy city to navigate, with reliable public transport. 

Manchester has the most bars and nightclubs in Europe, with 55 per 100,000 people

It can be incredibly frustrating having to wait in long queues when arriving at your next bar or nightclub. It’s also exciting to have a variety of places to explore. We wanted to know which European cities have the most bars and nightclubs.

Manchester, England - 55.12 bars and nightclubs per 100,000 people

Manchester takes the top spot with the most bars and nightclubs, at just over 55 per 100,000 people. Manchester has 218 bars and nightclubs, the 14th-highest total on our list. Manchester is known for having one of the best nightlife scenes in the UK. Its high number of bars and nightclubs means there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re looking for a traditional pub, a cocktail bar, or a unique venue. 

Prague, Czechia - 54.31 bars and nightclubs per 100,000 people

Narrowly behind in second place is Prague, with around 54 bars and nightclubs per 100,000 people. Czechia’s capital city has 633 bars and nightclubs, the second-highest total in Europe. Prague boasts a spectacular nightlife scene, including Central Europe's biggest music club. Located in Prague’s old town, Karlovy Lázně has five floors, each with a different genre of music. 

Edinburgh, Scotland - 40.86 bars and nightclubs per 100,000 people

Our top three is completed by Edinburgh, with almost 41 bars and nightclubs per 100,000 people. Edinburgh is home to a total of 190 bars and nightclubs, which is in the top 20 cities in Europe. The most active areas for the Scottish capital’s nightlife are the Royal Mile and Princes Street.

Methodology

We used AirDNA for the average price of an AirBnB. We then used Xe for the currency conversion rates. Data and conversion rates were collected on 24.03.2025. 

We used Numbeo for the average cost of domestic beer (0.5L draught), the cost of a taxi per km, and the safety scores. 

We used Xe again to convert the cost of domestic beer and taxis from euros to pounds. This was done on 24.03.2025.

We used TripAdvisor to find the number of bars and nightclubs in each city.

We used World Casino Directory to find the number of casinos in each city. 

We normalised the number of bars and nightclubs, and casinos by population using World Population Review.

We put these factors into a weighted table, giving each factor a normalised score out of 10. We then took an average of these scores to give each of our cities a nightlife score out of 10.
