Full BetMGM Bookmaker Review

Overall, BetMGM’s UK sportsbook feels like a steady dipping of the toe into British sportsbook waters. The product is good, the site is excellent, there are very competitive odds, and the functionality is right up there with anything else in the industry. 

However, some decisions have been made that need ironing out – overcompensating for UK fans of American sports, for example. Also, the welcome offer is excellent, and football has bonuses covered, but there needs to be more (odds boosts and similar) across other sports.

First Impression of BetMGM Sports

My First Impressions

I registered online through their desktop since there's no app yet and was greeted with a slick interface. BetMGM's black and gold design feels very Las Vegas. Welcome offers are at the top, with alerts for activated offers. Football, horse racing, tennis, and greyhounds are prominently featured, along with prominent position for major events currently taking place, making it feel familiar and user-friendly.

Live Betting

On a Wednesday morning, BetMGM Sports offered in-play betting options for football, tennis, table tennis, and esports, though fewer than other bookies. Events featured clean betting options, a stat ticker, and competitive odds.

Live Streaming

BetMGM Sports offers live streaming on horse racing.

There is a “stream only” on/off toggle at the top of the sports search, which while faded out and unavailable when I visited, does suggest that live streaming is imminent on other sports. 

Betting Odds

BetMGM Sports offers reliable and competitive odds. They often have longer odds for one side of a match result and shorter for the opposite in football, tennis, and American football, depending on betting preferences.

Also, remember that it is always worth checking alternative betting options, including best spread betting sites and betting exchange sites, depending on who you are as a bettor.

⚽ Football Betting

BetMGM Football betting covers all expected leagues, from the Champions League to domestic leagues in Costa Rica, Slovakia, and Ecuador and UK non-league coverage. Leagues are listed alphabetically after international ones, with no option to favourite or follow leagues a slight downside.

Bet Builder 

With a maximum of 10 selections per bet builder, there is plenty that can keep football bettors interested. There perhaps aren’t the same number of markets in some other bet builder sites – we counted 10 different markets for a Premier League match within the build function. It’s not possible to combine separate bet builders into one acca, however.

Unsurprisingly, and reassuringly, cash out is available at BetMGM Sports and it's excellent here. It’s a feature that has become an absolute staple of football betting sites, and definitely sets alarm bells going if not listed. It’s also good to see that cash out is offered on a bet that I placed that incorporated one of their welcome offers, something that is often restricted at sportsbooks.

🏇 Horse Racing

The horse racing section at BetMGM Sports works well. Divvied up into three clear parts thanks to the menu at the top you can choose between “Next Off”, “Meetings” and “Specials and Ante Post”. The Meetings section in particular is laid out clearly, making it easy to find each race, with those where “Each Way Plus” is offered (BetMGM UK’s extra places) brightly signposted by their pink icons. The addition of Best Odds Guaranteed is another plus for the offering.

Race events feature the expected markets, a toggle bar to get to other races at the same meeting, plus live streaming during the event, or video analysis of the runners if the event is pre-race overall a pretty good horse racing betting site.

🇺🇸 US Sports Betting

BetMGM offers a comprehensive range of American sports for betting across all major leagues.

🏈 American Football Betting

At BetMGM Sports, only the moneyline is initially listed for NFL games, catering to UK betting habits by labeling the spread as "handicap." This may not appeal to American football punters preferring traditional US presentation. Despite this, BetMGM offers extensive markets, bet builders, cash out, and "Pre-Packs." As an American company, they may improve and become one of the best NFL betting sites in the UK.

🏀 Basketball Betting

In our research of 80+ bookmakers and final basketball betting sites guide, BetMGM were only bettered by Unibet, making them a solid choice for hoops betting fans. 

BetMGM Sports' basketball and American football betting are Anglicised, showing only moneyline odds initially, which can be jarring for those seeking spread lines and totals for value and quick betslip additions but options were very good, seeing them score highly against the competition.

⚾ Baseball Betting

BetMGM UK offers around 18 MLB betting markets, including stats, form, and current standings. They also cover Asian leagues and futures markets for MLB and the World Series, making it a solid baseball betting site.

🏒 Ice Hockey Betting

BetMGM is a top choice among ice hockey betting sites, offering comprehensive coverage and competitive odds.

Impressive Darts Offering

As a new darts betting site in the UK, BetMGM UK's darts offering is very good. The market depth across various events is impressive, and the slick interface makes it easy to navigate. When I reviewed, they had markets for Modus Darts Super Series games and weekend World Series of Darts Finals, including highest checkout, leg betting, and different combinations.

Snooker Betting

As a fan of the sport our Editor-in-Chief is always on the lookout to determine which are the best snooker betting sites.

Good odds

Snooker is my favorite to bet on, and BetMGM UK offers longer odds than many other snooker betting sites. However, with only eight markets available, it lacks some depth. I'll use it for line shopping given the favorable odds.

🏉 Rugby Betting (Union & League)

I dislike when sportsbooks don't offer rugby specific promotions. Fortunately, BetMGM UK does. During the Rugby World Cup, they had a generous 100% profit boost on a World Cup winner selection. More markets per match are needed, but their odds are competitive.

There needs to be more markets per match, but the odds that they do have are good when compared to our best Rugby betting sites.

🏏 Cricket Betting

Could do better

With limited cricket options at the end of summer, BetMGM UK lacks domestic games and enough markets. They have international ODIs, the Asia Cup, and the Caribbean Premier League, but it's not enough to entice more cricket bettors.

Betway currently tops our Best Cricket betting site right now, with huge market depth, great odds and lots of promotions, so perhaps BetMGM UK can follow their lead and up their offering. 

🎾 Tennis Betting

The tennis betting at BetMGM UK initially seems comprehensive, but other sites offer more events. However, their odds are excellent, making it worth checking for tennis bettors.

If they could add in more markets, and some tennis-specific promotions, they’d definitely be closer to getting into the top 10 tennis betting sites on OLBG.

🏌️ Golf Betting

Current events are a big tick, with weekly events through out the season available. The downside is that there is no future markets for upcoming events further away – so no Ryder Cup or Solheim Cup outrights later in the year, or markets on next year’s majors listed. 

🏎️ Motorsports Betting

F1 is particularly deep, with plenty of markets and driver specials for the upcoming Grand Prix.

Solid Selection

As a motorsports bettor, I'm happy with BetMGM Sports' variety. F1 takes centre stage, and under 'motorsports,' there's Speedway, Superbikes, Supercars, and NASCAR, including Cup Series, Truck Series, and Xfinity Series.

There are plenty of boxing matches to bet on at BetMGM UK, but the market variety is limited. I hope to see more options as events approach.

Other Sports Betting

Whilst these sports might sound very niche, there is a massive market for fans, and millions of them in the UK, so good coverage of niche sports and events is key to be reviewed on OLBG.

BetMGM Sports offers extensive betting options for Handball, volleyball, cycling, AFL betting, and esports. Handball includes global competitions; volleyball,covers European Championships and various tournaments; cycling features future tours and current races; AFL betting has comprehensive stats and esports offers all major games like League of Legends and CS:GO.

There are a decent array of political betting options for punters interested in political betting either side of the pond.

BetMGM ranks 8th for political betting. Their well-covered section includes British by-elections, the General Election, US Presidential election, and London Mayoral election. Specials like 'In the Spotlight' offer markets for events like the Next Conservative Leader.

Not one of the best entertainment betting sites but some options on the bigger events.

Limited Variety

I found a few Specials markets under TV & Novelty, including odds for Strictly Come Dancing, BBC Sports Personality of the Year, and The Emmys.

Casino

BetMGM made its name as a casino site, [see the BetMGM casino review] pivoting into the sports betting world. Even when you’re using their sportsbook, there is still a large “Casino” tab at the top of their menu.

Account Opening Process

This was very easy. A couple of clicks, enter the most basic of personal information (name, DOB, email and phone number etc.) and you’re pretty much done. When you want to make your first deposit you’re given a code by SMS/text to verify that it is in fact you, but once that’s done you’re good to go. 

BetMGM Sports does stipulate by email that they may ask for proof of ID at some point, this is standard and better to upload sooner rather than later to avoid delayed withdrawals.

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

The overall design is clean, uncluttered and incredibly easy to navigate. The drop down menu in the top-left of the screen is the fastest way to different parts of the site – your profile, details, wallet etc. – plus more general pages such as the BetMGM blog, safer gambling tools and customer support.

Placing a bet

Within ten minutes of signing up to BetMGM Sports I placed a couple of bets on different sports, one of which took advantage of the welcome offer, while the other was a rugby odds boost. Both were incredibly easy, and both have cash out options under the My Bets tab, meaning even if I had made an error, I could easily get my full stake back should I choose.

Managing your account

The hamburger drop down is your go-to in terms of site navigation and account management. My offers, wallet, profile, history and log out are all here, as well as other parts of the site. When not in the menu, and just using the site normally, this hamburger will have a red notification symbol (with the number of notifications that you have inside).

Mine were offers that I hadn’t yet claimed but were entitled to, but going forward I’m sure things like changes to my terms and conditions would also be highlighted here.

Responsible Gambling Features

You can set your deposit limit while you’re signing up to BetMGM Sports; long before you’ve got close to actually making a bet. 

There is also a Settings tab at the bottom of the page, no matter what page you’re on, that allows you to make changes to limits, as well as odds formats, or odds change preferences/notifications.
