We share many slot games reviews on OLBG and these include up-to-date info about essential features such as theme, paylines, reels, bet range, and bonuses. Don't go anywhere if you want to find out about our play experience, first impressions and our expert verdict of the Fire in the Hole 2 slot game.
Theme - Mining
Unlike many of NLC's games, only one central character features in the game, and he is a rather scary-looking dude with a huge ginger beard smoking an enormous cigar. Yikes, smoking that down a mine might not be the best idea. Mind you, he's the dynamite guy with his hands on the blasting machine, so he probably knows a thing or two about explosives. There is a bit of a Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs vibe from the old-fashioned mine setting, and in fact, there is an enhancer feature in the bonus round called Dwarf.
The base game features lots of wood - wooden panels holding up the mine shaft and wooden barrels brimming with gems. The bonus game looks the same, apart from the addition of the enhancer section, which takes over the top row. Here you see a glimmer of NLC's usual funny style with a turd acting as the x1 multiplier image.
The grid is made up of, yep, you guessed it, wood with the symbols carved into wooden squares. The olde worlde type character symbols in order of highest value first are an old lantern, a leather work satchel, a map, a pair of worker's boots and a mining shovel. The standard symbols of K, Q, J, 10 and 9 follow next.
Reels
The Fire in the Hole 2 game has 6 reels and 6 rows to play on.
Paylines
Landing winning combos is possible on 14 paylines for the Fire in the Hole 2 slot.
RTP
Return to Player, or RTP, as you've probably seen it written on slot sites, is a way of forecasting what percentage of players' stakes will be returned to them over the long term. It's always represented by a percentage that is usually somewhere between 94% and 96%,nowdays I'd expect to see at least 96%. The Fire in the Hole 2 RTP is ever so slightly above average at 96.07%.
There are different RTP rates available so you’ll need to check on the operator’s sites to find out which RTP they are offering. We’ve dug around and found a few different percentages in some of the current popular UK online casinos and added these sites to the table below.
It's worth mentioning that RTP is just one consideration when deciding which site to play at. You should also think about payment options, game library, customer support and welcome bonuses and deals. Our casino reviews look at this info and much, much more.

Max Win
All of the max win features of NLC games are given a name, and in the case of Fire in the Hole 2, it's called El Beerado and is a very impressive 65,000x the bet.
Wild Shape
The Wild is depicted by the xBomb Wild symbol which substitutes for any symbol apart from the Bonus symbols.
Free Spins
The free spins round for Fire in the Hole 2 is named Lucky Wagon Spins. Here, 3,4 or 5 Bonus symbols initially trigger the round with 2, 3 or 4 rows of the reel area open. The feature starts with 3 spins and will reset to 3 spins every time a coin lands in the reel area. During the bonus round, the top row turns into an enhancer area where enhancers will be revealed for each spin. There are coin values, Multipliers, Dynamite, Beer and Dwarf enhancers. An enhancer is activated when a coin lands on the reel below the enhancer. There is also something called the Upgrade Crystal which is a large glimmering crystal. Here the additional 7th reel may reveal Upgrade symbols during each spin. All of the enhancer-activating Coins landing on the Upgrade symbol row will gain the below additional effects:
• Coin values and Multiplier will cause the Coin to remain active for the next spin.
• Dynamite, Beer, and Dwarf features become persistent features, activating their effects until the Lucky Wagon Spins bonus round ends.
The Below enhancers may appear on the top row:
- Coin values - sets the value of the coin.
- Multipliers - multiplies the value of all coins on the reel below the enhancer.
- Dynamite - adds the Dynamite count as times bet value to the triggering coin. It then throws as many Dynamites as it counts on reel positions. If it lands on Dirt it will remove the Dirt symbol. If it lands on Coin it will double its Coin value. And if it lands on a Chest it will activate the Chest.
- Beer - reactivates 0-5 old Coins, which makes them trigger their respective enhancers for the next spin. The triggering coin gets x1 value.
- Dwarf - collects all values in the reel area at the triggering coin position.
- Collects Chests - during the feature, the bottom row Collect Chest can be activated by Dynamites. When a Collect Chest is activated, it will collect the values in the reel area for the corresponding column above for every spin.
The Lucky Wagon Spins bonus round will end if the reel area is full and there are no active features for remaining spins.
Play Experience & First Impressions
I'm a fangirl when it comes to NLC games, but one complaint I have is that they can be too complicated. However, I am happy to report that even though this game is bursting with features they are straightforward to follow. The Lucky Wagon Spins bonus round was enjoyable and the enhancers add that extra layer of excitement that is needed to make standard free spins more exciting. Fire in the Hole 2 features various NLC trademarked features including xSplit. Here, an xSplit symbol splits symbols in its row, doubling those symbols. Symbols splitting into 8 or more will be shown with a multiplier instead. Once all split symbols have been activated, they all turn into one of the regular symbols.
The Collapsing Mine feature was mentioned in the summary and this was a nifty feature. Each spin begins with 3 active rows and for each collapse an additional row becomes active up tntil 6 rows. A new collapse can be triggered by the following events:
• A winning combination.
• xBomb Wild explosion.
• Wild Mining feature triggered.
Winning symbols are paid out and removed before triggering the next collapse, which will make all symbols fall downwards, leaving an empty position for new symbols to drop in from above.
Buried Features are worth shouting about, as there are Dirt symbols in the base game that may contain Wild, Split or Bonus symbols. Feature symbols buried in dirt are inactive until the dirt block they are contained in is removed or hit by a Split feature.
Wilds have always been a popular function, and they are featured heavily in this title. The Wild Mining feature triggers in the base game when 3- 6 of the same kind of symbols align horizontally or vertically, and there is no winning combo. The triggering symbols will be removed, creating Wild symbols in the middle positions of the alignment. 3 symbols award 1 Wild, 4 symbols award 2 Wilds, 5 symbols award 3 Wilds and 6 symbols award 4 Wilds. Finally, there is an xBomb Wild Multiplier feature where an xBomb Wild symbol substitutes for any symbol except the Bonus symbols. An exploding xBomb Wild removes adjacent symbols except for Bonus symbols and will increase the win multiplier by its value for the next collapse. All xBomb Wilds will explode before the next collapse except when the Wild Mining feature is triggered.
