About the EuroCup
The EuroCup Basketball was founded in 2002 and is a twenty-team European tournament which starts with two groups of ten teams who compete in a round-robin system playing eighteen games each.
Once the two groups have been completed, the top eight of each team advance to the playoffs meaning only four teams are eliminated with sixteen of the twenty teams advancing.
However, the groups do act as a seeding system with the top team from Group A facing the eighth-placed team from Group B and so on, meaning in theory the higher you finish, the lesser the opposition in the playoff first round.
The playoffs consist of a straight one-game knockout, win and you advance, lose and you go home all the way through to the final.
The format has changed over the years with best-of-three series, two games where the aggregate decided the winners but since 2021 they have switched to a single-game decider.
