To say this season of American Idol has been a roller coaster would be an understatement. This season has been a joy to watch, with a crop of extremely talented candidates giving it their all to see who comes out on top. Last week, that talented pool was further culled down to the final three after their Disney night performances concluded. Fans of the show were outraged when, in a shocking twist, We Ani (who performed “Into the Unknown” from Frozen II) was eliminated alongside Zachariah Smith. Even the judges were shocked at the elimination, as We Ani has consistently been one of the most impressive candidates in all her vocal performances this year.
The final three candidates are ready to take the stage: Iam Tongi (whom we’ve predicted as the favorite of the competition for the entire season), Colin Stough, and Megan Danielle. With the finale set to air on Monday, May 21, who will be the special contestant to go home with the grand prize of $250,000 and a recording deal? Let’s look at our final betting odds, according to sportsbooks, for Season 21 of American Idol.
American Idol Current Odds
Contestant | Moneyline | Probability |
---|---|---|
Iam Tongi | +150 | 40% |
Colin Stough | +500 | 16.7% |
Megan Danielle | +700 | 12.5% |
Iam Tongi is our Surefire Pick to Win American Idol Season 21
After the shocking result of the last episode’s eliminations, we think that Iam Tongi is essentially a lock at this point to win the entire competition. Throughout the season, fans of the show (and ourselves) were sure that Tongi’s stiffest competition came from We Ani, the Paterson, New Jersey native whose powerful vocal range carried her far into the competition.
In contrast, Tongi’s range is more limited, but his vocal tone and the heartfelt story of his father passing away seemingly won fans of American Idol over, and at this point, we don’t think anyone else holds a candle to Tongi. However, there may be one (unlikely) scenario that sees Tongi eliminated from the show without the win…
Colin Stough: Country Strikes Back?
With fans outraged by the fact that We Ani was sent home before the finale, it begs the question, how did Colin Stough manage to sneak his way into the top 3? The answer is clear: never underestimate the power of country music. Country music is still hugely popular, and a large portion of American Idol viewers are clearly fans of the truly American genre. As a result, we think that if Tongi doesn’t manage to win, it may be due to the fact that country fans overwhelm the polls and vote for Colin Stough, whose country vocals have brought him to the final three.
It's a longshot (as reflected by the odds), but if there are enough country fans tuning into the finale, it just might swing the votes in Stough’s favor. Never say never.
Megan Danielle – Our Biggest Longshot
Of the two female contestants that were in the top five last week, we did not suspect Megan Danielle to be the one remaining in the top three. Always living in the shadow of the more powerful We Ani, Megan Danielle has managed to survive due to her strong pocket of fans, particularly because she’s a Christian singer, a fact that should not go unnoticed seeing as this is American Idol.
However, of the three finalists, we think that Danielle’s fan base won’t be enough to get her the win at this point. You can try hedging your bets and seeing if there’s a major upset, but we think Danielle is the biggest longshot of our final three.
