Wimbledon is the only major played on a grass surface, similar to the French Open being the only major played on clay but again the reality is the top guys have simply dominated men's singles tennis this century.

As mentioned above the continued dominance of the world's elite makes finding trends to highlight potential longshots for betting tips very difficult. Interestingly only Novak Djokovic in the last ten Wimbledon Men's singles tournament has managed to defend his title, accomplishing the feat in 2014/15, 2018/19 and 2019/21/22. It is still worth paying attention to the respective records of the last ten winners if only to see if the younger generation players coming through.

Year Champion (WR) Runner Up (WR) Set Score
2023 Marketa Vondrousova (42) Ons Jabeur (6) 2-0
2022 Elena Rybakina (23) Ons Jabeur (2) 2-1
2021 Ashleigh Barty (1) Karolina Pliskova (13) 2-1

2017 Garbine Muguruza (15) Venus Williams (11) 2-0
2016 Serena Williams (1) Angelique Kerber (4) 2-0

2014 Petra Kvitova (6) Eugenie Bouchard (13) 2-0
2013 Marian Bartoli (15) Sabine Lisicki (24) 2-0
  • After Seven time Wimbledon winner Serena Williams won her final title in 2016, the Wimbledon trophy has gone to six first time Wimbledon winners. Serena Williams is the only player to retain her Wimbledon title in the last ten renewals (2015 & 2016). Marion Bartoli (2013) was the other maiden winner in addition to the six ladies winning since 2017.
  • 8/10 finals were won in straight sets.

Before placing your 2024 Wimbledon Ladies Singles Winner bets it's worth noting the following trends especially if looking for an each way alternative away from the top seeds.

 World Ranking

  • 18/20 finalists were ranked inside the top 25 in the world, the exceptions being five time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams (181) in 2018 due to inactivity and 2023 winner Market Vondrousova was unseeded at 42 in the world.
  • 8/10 winners were ranked inside the top 15 in the world, not the last two winners though!

Career Grass Court Statistics & Slam Form

  • 9/10 won at least 60% of their career grass court matches
  • 7/10 had previously won a grand slam title, the exceptions being Marion Bartoli (2013), Elena Rybakina (2022) & Marketa Vondrousova (2023).

Current Form

  • Similar to the Men's tour, the ladies grass court season is fairly brief. Serena Williams' three titles in this period came without a grass court tournament preparation.
  • Previous winning slam form in the same season has been thin on the ground with just Serena Williams in 2010 & 2015 winning a slam title before going on to win at Wimbledon. Iga Swiatek won the French & US Open in 2022 however her best to date at Wimbledon is a Quarter Final exit in 2023.
  • Serena Williams is the only Wimbledon winner in the last ten years to make the finals of the French and Australian Open in the same season as winning here.
