The Liberty Bowl is a college football bowl game played annually usually around the end of December or beginning of January featuring teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Big 12 Conference. The first Liberty Bowl game took place in 1959 with Penn State defeating Alabama 7-0. Although not part of the 'New Year's Six' (NY6) bowl games forming the College Football Playoffs (CFP), the Liberty Bowl is one of the oldest college football bowl games. For sponsorship reasons the game is also known as the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Where is the Liberty Bowl Game played ?

The present venue for the Liberty Bowl game and since 1965 is the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. Liberty Bowl attendances often surpass 50,000 fans, in 2007 over 63,000 saw Mississippi State defeat Central Florida 10-3. The original venue for the Liberty Bowl between 1959 and 1963 was the Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia. The game moved to the Atlantic City Convention Hall in New Jersey for 1964 before residing at the current venue to date.

Since 2014 the Liberty Bowl is primarily contested by teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the Big 12 Conference. The Liberty Bowl is one of six end of season Southeastern Conference bowl games with a different SEC team picked for each bowl game.
