The Sugar Monster bellows at the top of his voice ‘I want it all’ with a mouth jammed full of sweets and cakes. Wow, this guy can certainly eat! This bright, colourful game lends itself well to the sweet theme with lots of treats on display while you spin.

Another feature worth mentioning is the progress bar above the reels. Each cascade fills one level of the bar. Four cascades in a single spin will fill the bar completely and trigger the Free Spins feature.

Graphics, Music, and Sound Effects

The game is warm, vibrant and welcoming with sweets, sweets and even more sweets! They’re shown on the reels, and in the background imagery, there are even mini posters of sweets. The images are high quality and fun and the Sugar Monster is at the forefront of the action.

The sound effects are the kind of traditional slot sounds you’re probably used to hearing. The music is light-hearted and sets the atmosphere well. During the Free Spins round the music picks up the pace. You can hear the sounds of the little monster chowing down on all the cakes and sweets and then spewing them up again to produce the Collon Mulipiliers. You’ll want to see plenty of these which are shown in piles of brightly-coloured cotton candy.

Theme – Sweets

As I’ve already mentioned, you see sweets, sweets and more sweets when playing this game. Oh, and plenty of cakes too. This Sugar Monster must be on an emotional roller coaster with all of the sugar highs and of course - the other the opposite end of the scale - the sugar lows. 

In the background, you’ll see an abandoned, derelict village where the Sugar Monster has raided and destroyed all the sweet shops and bakeries and left a trail of destruction in his wake. There are even ‘wanted’ posters of the little critter plastered up in the street.  There is movement on the screen from leaves twirling across the screens which sets the scene for this deathly-quiet, deserted village. 

Higher-paying symbols on the reels are made up of a series of snazzy, sugary cakes covered with buckets of sprinkles and icing. The lower-paying values are made up of various shaped sickly sweets.

The Sugar Monster is certainly a fun and happy-go-lucky slot game.

Okay let’s start with the aspects I was not so keen on and then we can end on a (sugar) high. Firstly, there’s the RTP, which at 95.68% is pretty average as most games nowadays are above 96%. However, like I said in the RTP section, there are different rates available if you shop around. The stake range is lower than usual but this could be a positive or a negative depending on your viewpoint. The game was not ground-breaking in terms of what’s out there. There are numerous sweet/chocolate-themed games on the market. Maybe it’s due to so many of us having a sweet tooth that there’s a demand for this type of game.

Right, now onto the aspects I enjoyed. At 10,806x this is a decent number for the max win amount which sits well in comparison to the competitors out there. I've played a few scatter-paying slot games recently and I’m a fan, Red Tiger has produced quite a few of these slots. I've placed this reason in the positive pile but again, it depends on which side of the fence you sit on. 

The bonus features, which let’s face it, are the crux of a slot game are entertaining. The Cotton Multipliers concept is depicted by the monster spewing out the food he’s eaten which isn't the most alluring idea ever but it does tie in well with the theme. How it works is that the Sugar Monster can produce up to 3 Cotton Candy Symbols with multipliers once he’s eaten a winning combo.  At the end of the spin, the sum of all of the multipliers is applied to the total win. The possible multipliers available are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x and 100x which can be compelling if you land a decent amount. The Free Spins round was easy to follow and the progress bar upped the excitement when knowing that you’re about to trigger the four cascades and enter the bonus round.

The Sugar Monster game doesn’t stand out as being particularly different, however, as I review oodles of slot games I can’t help being impressed by something out of the ordinary that catches my eye. However, plenty of players will enjoy this game as they've hit the sweet spot of decent bonus features combined with a playful theme. I’d recommend giving this game a spin as the little monster has boundless amounts of energy brought on by all that sugar he squanders which makes for some upbeat entertainment.
