The Gates of Hades slot takes place on a 6x6 grid with Cluster Pays. For winning combinations to land, you need 5 or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically. With a Greek mythology theme, the Gates of Hades slot takes you on a quest to the underworld. Based on the god of the underworld, it has a similar setup to previous games such as Gates of Olympus.

Using a different mechanic, the visuals are intense with Hades standing to the right of the 6x6 grid. Set in a fiery setting, it’s a world apart from Mount Olympus. It resembles the Hades Mode in Zeus vs Hades – Gods of War slot.

On the grid, there are 5 differently-coloured gemstones as well as a goblet, gem-encrusted gold ring and crown with the latter paying 150 times your total bet for 15 or more in a winning cluster. With 36 symbols appearing on the grid, multiple winning clusters can land simultaneously.

Gates of Hades benefits from several special symbols. For starters, this is a Hades Scatter symbol which appears anywhere on the grid: 3 or more will trigger the Free Spins feature. Tumble

Every time you land a winning cluster of 5 or more matching symbols on the grid, the Tumble feature will become active. The winning symbols vanish from the grid with the remaining symbols falling into the empty positions: this sees new symbols falling in from above. Giving you the chance of more winning clusters, the tumbling process repeats itself until no more new winning clusters land on the grid.

Wild Multipliers

In both the base game and free spins, there are Wild Multiplier symbols (on fire) that can land anywhere on the grid. Containing a random multiplier value between 1x and 100x, all Wild Multiplier symbols are collected in a meter above each column.

Every win from clusters is multiplied by the sum of all multipliers on top of the columns (or reels) that had winning symbols on them (which are part of a winning cluster).

Free Spins

Landing 3 or more Hades Scatter symbols anywhere on the grid during a base game spin will activate the Free Spins feature: 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters will result in 10, 12, 15 or 20 free spins respectively.

During the feature, all Wild Multiplier symbols are collected on top of each column. Not cleared at the end of a tumbling sequence, they are worth between 1x and 500x. Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 Hades Scatter symbols will result in 5, 7, 10 or 12 extra free spins, respectively (with no limits).

When I fired up the Gates of Hades slot, I was expecting a Gates of Olympus clone but with Hades rather than Zeus. On face value, the games look very similar but it uses a Cluster Pays mechanic rather than Scatter Pays one. In Zeus vs Hades – Gods of War, there are 15 paylines.

When it comes to the gameplay, all games offer Tumbles and Wild Multipliers. In the Free Spins feature, Wild Multiplier values are stored above each column which is similar to how Multiplier Orbs are stored in Gates of Olympus. With Cluster Pays, the multipliers can keep building throughout the Free Spins feature.

If you’re lucky enough to play the Super Free Spins feature, all Wild Multiplier symbols are worth at least 10x which should boost your winning potential significantly.

With a high 96.52% RTP rate, Gates of Hades comes with 10,000 times bet max wins: double that of Gates of Olympus. That said, the max win probability in this latest instalment is 1 in 42,194,093 spins as opposed to the 1 in 718,391 spins in Gates of Olympus!

In terms of win potential, Gates of Hades is lower than the 15,000 times bet in Zeus vs Hades – Gods of War and Gates of Olympus 1000 as well as the 50,000 times bet in Gates of Olympus Super Scatter. Overall, Gates of Hades offers something different to its predecessors. Whilst the win potential is decent, the max win probability is something I cannot ignore.
