Whiskey Pete was bought for a huge £180,000 at the Craven Breeze Up Sales last year. Has only had three races so expect major improvement, he has already won at this course at 7f and steps up another 4f+ on his seasonable debut. Ralph Beckett is adept at placing his charges so the step up in distance shouldn't be an issue.
He is out of Night of Thunder and Dorcas Lane, on the Dam side he is related to Atty Persee and Candleford who both had no issue getting this distance. He is ridden by Rossa Ryan who has a 22.7% strike rate for this trainer and has also clocked up 4 million dollars in prize money over 113 wins meaning he is trusted with the best horses in the best races. Whiskey Pete won lto and Ralph has a 19.3% success rate eeking out another win for his charges. Of course Aidan O'Brien runs London City who will be a hot favourite but he doesn't win everything does he - note City Of Troy. The stats suggest that Ralph and Rossa have a better record at York than the O'Brien/Moore combo. At over 8/1 I am taking a chance.

Wahraan moved over to the Jamie Osborne stable last summer and recently has come right back to form, however he missed the break in his last run at Windsor and had to make up loads of ground to finish 3rd of 11. Ground conditions are okay and he is on a rating where he can be competitive. Jamie and Saffie Osborne have teamed up eight times in the last 21 days winning 3 of the races for a current win percentage of 37% so we can be confident all the stable is firing. The downside is that both Trainer and Jockey are still waiting for their first Knavesmire winner but fortunately Wahraan doesn't know this and I am hoping Jamie and Saffie will be celebrating tomorrow night.

We're on the Knavesmire on Wednesday where Marhaba The Champ makes his seasonal debut to try and make it three visits to York and take home the spoils on every occasion. This son of Galileo has only had ten career runs so there is plenty of scope to work with. He is best seen on GF going so I am hoping York isn't drenched over the next 24 hours. Over the winter Marhaba has been gelded so hopefully this will concentrate his efforts more on the job in hand. I get the feeling he is a touch above on this course and with the assistance of the great William Buick has every opportunity to get his head in front again.

Ey Up Its Maggie

Ey Up Its Maggie returns after a lacklustre run at Ripon but to be fair this was her second heavy ground run in a
short period during a time when the heavens were opening like in a biblical story involving Moses. The race was also
truly run finishing seven seconds faster than the average time on Heavy ground at this course. She has had a
month off and is teamed back up with Beverley's leading Jockey Kevin Stott who has ridden her 9 times, winning 3
and only finishing out of the top 4 on one occasion. The handicapper has cut her some slack so I am hoping the
period off has worked and she can give the others a fight here. If it starts raining tomorrow, rejoice as most of her wins are on soft
ground although she has put up some decent performances on GF despite never getting her head in front. Dandy Dinmont is a
danger but it's his first run of the season and there is no evidence to support a winning run first time up.

Not going over board, just 50 points on this 20/1 shot. Just A Spark is a speculative choice given how hot this handicap is butshe has won 7 out of 19 races (37% SR), has the assistance and 3lb weight pull of hot apprentice Gina Mangan plus B R Millman raids very rarely here but has won on 3/8 trips to Newcastle. She never runs a bad race so I hope to see her fighting at the finish.

Taking on the AMO racing machine and Mr Wonderful but Cross the Tracks has the races in bag whereas Mr Wonderful has not. Given a 44 day break by Richard Spencer I am hoping he will be raring go and with the assistance of Oisin Murphy may improve the trainers huge 24% strike rate here. Cross the Tracks has appeared twice at this venue and has not been out of the top two so I have every confidence he will be there at the finish.

Tim Easterby sends the back to form Showalong to Notts in the hope of capitalising on his current form, his fitness and the use of first time blinkers. Tim has only used FT blinkers twice over the seasons and has been successful on one of those occasions. Showalong is the best horse in the race haswon on the course and has nothing against him so should go close.

We're taking on the short priced favourite with Mattice who went very close last time out and maybe able to put a drop down in class to good use to get his head in front here. Versatile in regards to going conditions but if it dries even more at Ripon then he'll put his best foot forward. Tim Easterby is top trainer here and although Dave Allan is aboard Count D'orsay maybe he's made an error here.

Disappointed LTO over the Soft at Doncaster but today he is back on the AW and the LTO first time hood has been taken off. Won his maiden here so likes the course and with just 16 runs on the board has plenty of scope climb the handicap ratings. Has Billy Loughnane on board who was a close third with him here in November and Trainer J Tate has a huge 20% strike rate at this course and is also on fire with 22% of his runners hitting the jamstick first in the last three weeks.

From Royal Ascot to Kempton Park within a few runs? Richard Hannon's charge takes her seasonal bow and all things considered should be ahead of these in the class stakes. Only seven 7 on the board so there is plenty more miles left on the clock. I am ssuming that after July last year she had some issues because she wasn't seen on the racecouse after this so we need to take her well being on trust however Hannon has a great record of readying a comeback and his strike rate is higher than his actiual seasonal return. Pat Dpbbs has partnered Hannons mounts 18 times in the last 21 days gaining 3 win and a strike rate of 18% - the best J/T combo in the race. Dropped another 3lb from her last run Rich has a great opportunity to make it a succesful return.

A competitive handicap where I have split 125 between two selections. Curtiz has been falling in the handicap and races off 57 where he has winning form on 65 over turf. Has the assistance of jockey Tom Marquand and trainer Hughie Morrsion who are both at the top of their game at Windsor and both have impressive 19% and 18% strike rates over the last 21 days respectively. Concern somewhat about the forecast soft ground but there isn't much evidence that he dislikes it either way. I think the drop back to 1m 2f will help him

Teams up with Rossa Ryan again who has ridden the selection once and won once. Would have preferred a mile trip but maybe the step upto 1m 2f is better for him now (he won at this distance as a 3yo), has been dropping in the ratings and lines up today 5lb less that his last winning turf rating. Soft ground isn't an issue Has good recent form, if it's a going day then he'll be in with a good chance of winning this.

My Little Queens dropped down the handicap since winning in May at this venue last year and is primed to strike again. Richard Fahey is the top dog out the racing trainers at this venue with an impressive 15% strike rate here. MLQ has visited Hamilton twice and on both occasions has taken home the spoils so he obviously enjoys it here. The forecast going is Good to Soft and MLQ has raced on this surface on 4 occasions, winning twice and never being out of the top 5. I think the drop down a furlong will be in his favour so all is set for a good run.

Struth has won twice only in his short racing life and both have been on his seasonal debut so hope springs eternal that he is in the mood again today. It's a hot race with New London the class horse in the race and any horse from the Charlie Appleby yard who is wearing first time head gear needs a closer look however, it is a long way from Middleham to Newmarket and I'm sure Charlie Johnston hasn't brought Struth down south for a day out in Cambridge. Johnstons strike rate at HQ is currently 15% (great for a northern trainer) and this mirrors his current win/run ratio over the last 21 days. Struth has been placed on both occasions he has attempted the 1m 6f but I feel that from 3yo to 4yo he may have matured into his racing and is primed for a good season. He acts on any going from G-F right down to Heavy so there is no issues there.

This is a hot handicap where numerous horses may improve beyond recognition. Have chosen Key to Cotai as an ew bet as he has put up some good performances on this course during the last campaign. His reapperance was a good pipe opener so I have enough confidence to tip him. Out of 20 trainers after the prize money Ed Walker has the best win/run ratio at HQ and currently has a 30% win rate over the last 21 days.

Only had ten runs and the step up to 1m 6f may bring about further improvement. Big fan of Hugo Palmer and always follow where he places his horses. Top weight says that this horse is the best in this handicap and I'll be flabbergasted if he's not there at the business end.
