Interesting that Jim Crowley goes to Doncaster today for his retainer instead of being at any of the bigger meetings. On that evidence alone I think Mukaafah is due to run well. He looked a colt with a bright future when he trounced his rivals in a novice last November at Kempton.

On A Session is handicapped to win at the moment and the signs were there 2 races ago at Musselburgh that he was close. Fancied last time out when drawn well at Chester he tried to pre-empt the start and got it badly wrong and lost any chance he may have had. Dropped another pound today and now runs off 81 having won off 89 in the past. He can run a good race today at Thirsk where he has run well before having been second in the Thirsk Hunt Cup in 2022.

Top weighted Grey's Monument looks to be a better class horse than a handicapper having already won at Listed level. Beaten first time out this season on very soft ground by Charyn who went onto win again next time in a Group 2 race. He's a C&D winner and likes to be up with the pace so needs to break well from stall 14 today.

Was a very decent horse back in the day with Michael Stoute but was severely punished for a 5 length win at Newmarket as a 3 year old. He hasn't won since that day and now with Jamie Osborne and rated 4 lbs lower than his last win he can go well today. Finished 3rd last time out at Windsor where he lost a few lengths at the start.

Most of Michael Dods' runners have seemed to have needed a run this season and that's what it looked like for Commanche Falls at Newmarket. Entitled to come on a lot for that run he can run a big race at York, where he has run well previously. He hasn't won at Group 2 level before but he's won at Group 3 and Listed level.

What a star this boy has been over the years! Now a 10 year old and after a poor season last year he now runs off 84 which is 16lbs lower than his last win at Doncaster in 2022. He's won at York 5 times and 4 times over this distance. If he still retains some enthusiam for racing he could go well today.

Although she's been off the track for nearly 10 months she is a genuine Group 1 performer and if fit and ready to go will take some beating. Only beaten a length by the top class filly Tahiyra in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot that sets the bar very high.

Made a hash of the start at Brighton last time out and in the end only beaten by 3/4 length by one carrying the best part of 2 stones less. Ran in the Portland last year off 87 and arrives here off 82 he's certainly handicapped to win given a level break.

On 2 year old form there was only a nose between Dragon Leader and American Bay at Salisbury in August. With the tip now 9lbs better off and with the benefit of an outing this term he should reverse the form. Harry Charlton's stable in good order and he can go well today with only 4 opponents.

What a grand servant this boy has been for connections. Now 10 years old and running off his lowest ever mark. He won a couple of times last season (York and Pontefract) and he's a previous C&D winner and can go close as long as age hasn't caught up with him.

Being drawn low at Chester is a big advantage and huge on any distance up to 7 furlongs. If On A Session can hold a decent position from break he stands a good chance today to break a losing sequence going back April 2023. Having run well at Chester before he is now 2lbs lower than his last winning mark. There were signs that he's about due following his 3rd place finish at Musselburgh last time.

I'm not fully convinced that Aidan O'Brien has his string firing at the moment and I'm fairly happy to take any of his seasonal debut runners on. There was just a short head separating Cadogan Place and Hidden Law at Southwell last time out with the pair 7 lengths clear of the remainder. Although Hidden Law may have been slightly unlucky that day it would be unfair to say that Cadogan Place won't come on a lot for that run. With 6 points separating these two in the betting I'm happy to back this son of Frankel each way.

Karl Burke saddles the favourite for the 1000 Guineas but he also has a very decent chance with Darnation at massive odds. An impressive winner of the Prestige and May Hill last season on softer ground than today. I would be concerned if the ground went to the firmer side of good but I don't think the trainer would risk her if he didn't think she'd handle it. She's well worth a dabble at 40/1 paying 4 places (SkyBet pay 5 places but go a very stingy 25/1).
