  • Cate Blanchett remains the favorite at -150, but the race and odds have tightened in the past two weeks.
  • Michelle Yeoh's film Everything Everywhere All At Once has been nominated for eleven Academy Awards.
  • The award ceremony will take place on March 12th, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The nominees for the 95th Academy Awards have been locked in, which means that sportsbooks are now offering odds on prospective winners in every category. While some categories have clear, runaway favorites, others are far more competitive. The Best Actress category appears to be handing out participation trophies to three nominess, setting the stage for mounting tension between Cate Blanchett and Michelle Yeoh. Blanchett, a two-time Academy Award winner, is Hollywood royalty at this point in her career. Yeoh has the advantage of her film's reception by the Academy. Everything Everywhere All At Once received a staggering eleven nominations.  The head to head nature of this race between these two actresses will likely draw a ton of betting action before March 12th when the winner is announced at the Dolby Theatre.

Here are the odds being offered by sportsbooks for this year's Best Actress.

Best Actress Betting Odds

Actress Projected Odds Probability
Cate Blanchett (Tár)
-150 60%
Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once)
+110 47.62%
Ana de Armas (Blonde)
+2000 4.76%
Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie)
+3300 2.94%
Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans)
+3300 2.94%

Blanchett has done quite well during the award circuit thus far winning for her performance in Tár at the Atlanta Film Critics Circle, the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and most notably at the Golden Globes. Yeoh also has a laundry list of award wins under her belt including recognition from the Boston Society of Film Critics, the National Board of Review, and her own win at the Golden Globes. If you're confused, it's because the Golden Globes, unlike the Oscars, separates acting awards between dramas and a category they title "Musical or Comedy." So both of the Oscar nominees in this category head into their big night with Golden Globe momentum.

Blanchett could join the exclusive ranks of three-time Oscar winner if she holds off Yeoh. The only living actresses with three are Meryl Streep and Frances McDormand. I believe Blanchett will have to wait a bit longer and Yeoh will ride the wave of EEAAO's popularity to an upset win in this category.

Blanchett's odds have fallen back slightly since the official nominee release. At one point she was up to -225 in most betting markets.
