About the Japanese J1 League

The Japanese J1 League does attract foreign interest with a few soccer players in the latter stages of their career making the move there. This goes back a while too, I am sure most are aware of when Gary Lineker made the move to Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1991.

Other notable players who have made the move there are Lukas Podolski and Toto Schillaci. More recently this has been a place for Spanish players to head, these include Andres Iniesta, David Villa, and Fernando Torres.

The season runs from late February / early March through December so there will be plenty of J1 League betting picks throughout the year from our soccer tipsters.

Their J1 predictions will come across multiple markets including full-time results, total goals, both teams to score plus plenty more. During the off-season head over to the 'Soccer Betting Picks' page for picks from other leagues.

Using the J1 League Soccer Picks

There are a few ways of using the J1 League soccer picks. First of all, for each match scheduled the most tipped outcome will be highlighted. The outcome can come from multiple markets and will be displayed with the number of picks for the prediction.

As well as the number of picks for the prediction, you can also see the total number on the market, giving you the percentage of picks for the outcome. This is used along with the current odds to give you a five-star value rating.

Another way is to click on the match and as a result, the event page is shown, at the top, you can see the most tipped outcome on the full-time market, as well as the 'Best Tipsters Pick'.

The 'Best Tipsters Pick' is the pick from the tipster who has shown the most profit over the past twelve months. You can view every market on this page too, meaning you can see how many picks each outcome has received as well as any comments left by our soccer tipsters.

J1 League Format and Past Winners

The Japanese J1 League was founded back in 1992 and is the top football league in Japan.

The league consists of eighteen clubs who play each other both home and away in a thirty-four-match season.

The league follows most European leagues with three points for a win and one for a draw.

The tiebreaker factors fall to goal difference, goals scored and then if still tied, head-to-head results and disciplinary points are considered.

The team finishing top automatically goes into next season's AFC Champions League group stages whilst the runner-up and third-placed teams go into the playoff round.

The team that wins the Emperor's Cup also qualify for the group stages of the AFC Champions League.

The bottom two teams are automatically relegated to the J2 League.

The team finishing third from the bottom has to play a one-off match against the J2 League playoff winners to decide which team features in the J1 league the following season.
