What a week last week with our thread claiming a hat trick of winners! Ralfie1982 with Stenson at The Open, The Rabbit had Aaron Baddeley in the Barbasol while Surfsup correctly predicted Lydia Ko to win the LPGA Marathon Classic. An unbelievable week, well done to all concerned!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE ‘Player of the Week’ accompanied by 100-150 words. If you like two different players in two separate events, you can pick a selection on two different tours so the group cover as many weekly events as possible. Max 2 events.

Player - Jesper Parnevik

Tournament - The Senior Open Championship

Reasons -

Third in the Chubb Classic on the Champions Tour in February, Parnevik joined the seniors winners circle with victory at the Insperity Invitational in May and in his last start finished 13th in the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. Three of his professional wins have come in Scotland, Texas and at the Honda Classic so the wind is not an issue for the Swede who can follow in Henrik Stenson's footsteps by claiming a claret jug this week. Five Top 10 finishes in The Open Championship proper, Parnevik was twice a runner up and he can be inspired to victory at Carnoustie in Scotland.

Player - Matt Kuchar

Tournament - RBC Canadian Open

Reasons -

Matt Kuchar 18/1 is the type of experienced player who could win this. He is 38 years of age and has won seven events on this tour with the latest being in April 2014. He has not won since suffering a back injury in August 2014 but he has produced some good efforts recently with top 10 finishes in all five of his latest seven events on the PGA tour and the two that he failed to obtain a top 10 in were the U.S.Open and the Open Championship which are much stronger events than this one. He can putt well on fast greens and he has a consistent record at this course with a jt 2nd in 2013 & a jt 7th last year.

Tournament: CANADIAN OPEN

Reasons For Support:Jim came back from injury a few weeks ago and had a great result in the US Open.He has not been as good since but that was to be expected.He has strong form at this tournament down the years though and is twice a winner of the Canadian Open in 2006 and 2007.Jim also was runner up here in 2014 and also had a strong result last year when he finished in 4th.He is available early at 30/1 and I have taken a little each way at those odds.

Player: Bernhard Langer

Tournament: The Senior Open

Reasons:

Bernhard Langer will be 60 years old next month, but remains one of the best senior players on the Champions tour, having won 7 Senior majors in all, including 2 so far this year and will be attempting to equal 2 records held by the great Jack Nicklaus, who won 8 Senior majors in total and 3 during one year.

Although Bernhard Langer was surprisingly beaten in Germany recently, he still played well to finish 3rd in that event and has not finished outside the top 13 in all 11 of his most recent events in the US.

Having not participated in the Open at Royal Troon last week, he will be fresher than a number of his rivals in this event, whilst it is also worth noting that he won the Seniors Open in 2010 when it was last held at Carnoustie

Although 4/1 is not a great price, Bernhard Langer's recent form and course experience make him a stand out selection to win the event and in doing equal Jack Nicklaus' terrific exploits as a Senior golfer.

Before The Open Colt had managed 5 top 20 finishes in his last 4 of those 3 had resulted in top 5 finishes. The Open just was not his bag and I fancy Colt to return to the form we saw in recent past. The last 3 events before The Open his GIR was reading 80.56, 75.00 and again 75%. if he repeats that along with his good DA (the three prior to the Open were all between 75-83%). he has e/w chances

The world number one didn't have the best of rounds last week in the British open and never struck a blow to the leaders but he is a three times winner this year The Players Championship Dell Matchplay and The Arnold Palmer he should feel more at home away from Royal Troon and was third in the Bridgestone and eighth in the US Open in the two preceding events . The Aussie has finished no worse than 27th in his last 11 events including 6 top tens .

Player: Dustin Johnson

Tournament: Canadian Open

Reasons For Support:

Dustin Johnson despite his decent form and recent two great victories in US Open and Bridgestone Invitational wasn't able to win in Open Championship mainly because of windy conditions which don't suit his style of play. In Canadian Open, Oakville, Ontario it should be way easier as quite stable weather is expected, with slow wind average 10 km/h. His main rival should be defending champion Jason Day, but Aussie is really inconsistent in last weeks and Dustin shouldn't have problems to get a victory.

Tournament: Canadian Open ( first round )

Reason: The price.. At 50/1 it's worth a dabble. He plays in the morning that may be a huge help, he has played well all year and seems to produce his best for the first round. Can easily string a few birdies in a row.

Dustin Johnson tied 2nd for Valverde this week, DJ finished a shot behind Vegas in the Canadian Open. Hard luck Valverde almost back to back weeks with a winner for our thread.
