Boris Johnson Government Resignations
Members of Governments leave for a variety of reasons, some are sacked, some move on because they do not agree with the actions or tone of the government, some for health reasons, and some for family reasons.
When Boris Johnson became Prime Minister he had his fair share of resignations, and then in July 2022, he lost his Chancellor and Health secretary in one day after they questioned the integrity of the government they were members of.
These and other resignations made Boris Johson decide his leadership of the country and the Conservative party could no longer go on, the search for a new PM was underway.
Famous Resignations From UK Governments

Some Cabinet ministers are pushed and some jump, perhaps the most famous resignations are the following, although there have been plenty.
1. Many of you who watched the BBC Series " The Trial Of Christine Keeler" will have viewed perhaps the most famous cabinet resignation, that of John Profumo the Secretary Of State For War, he lied to the House Of Commons about his affair with Keeler and was forced to resign.
2. Michael Heseltine was Secretary Of Defence in Margaret Thatcher's government. He resigned after disagreeing with her over the sale of a UK helicopter manufacturer.
3. Geoffrey Howe was another of Mrs Thatcher's ministers who resigned, his House of Commons speech signalled the beginning of the end for Mrs Thatcher as UK Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister of the day can reshuffle his cabinet whenever he feels it is necessary, for example, the last reshuffles by Boris Johnson were in February 2020 and September 2021 after becoming PM in July 2019.
4. Boris Johson saw an exodus of cabinet members in July 2022.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the revelation that the PM knew about allegations of impropriety against chief whip Chris Pincher, yet Boris said he did not know.
In total over 60 ministers left his government.
