Euro 2020 Home Advantage Betting Strategy

Updated: 450 Football

Due to a different format for Euro 2020 certain countries will have a huge advantage by playing all or the majority of their group games on home soil. The online bookmakers are of course aware of this but will their odds truly reflect home advantage at the Euros.

Home Advantage

  • Home advantage could play a huge part in Euro 2020 match results.

  • UPDATE: All 4 Semi Finalists played their group games at home!

My first thought when considering this advantage was not to bet against any home team, any team playing in their own country should "up" their game and will be expected to put in a good performance.

Any crowds allowed will predominately be a home crowd, this could/should lift the home side even further.

Football Results

The following group games feature countries who are playing group games in their own countries at Euro 2020.

I have always listed the home teams first even though UEFA may have them in the reverse order.

There are 24 group games where the country is at home, they are listed below.

The betting odds will change as we get closer to match kick-off and also after the first game for all countries.

I have quoted the prices but will use best odds as kick-off (BOKO) as hopefully some of the countries will drift.

The 1st Euro 2020 strategy is to back all home teams to win and see if a profit can be made.

These will be 1 point bets, so 24 points in total.

23rd June Munich Germany Hungary 1.28 12 6.6

The 2nd Euro 2020 strategy is to back the draw when the home team is not the favourite, (6 games in total).

These will be 1 point bets so 6 points in total.

Date Venue Home Team Away Team Draw Odds Result

17th June Copenhagen Denmark Belgium 3.8 1-2
19th June Budapest Hungary  France 5.5 1-1
22nd June Glasgow Scotland Croatia 3.4 1-3

The way the tournament is formated has thrown up some interesting matches,

  • Scotland will never have a better chance of reaching the knockout stages with 2 home games, and a game at Wembley.
  • Fancied Belgium must play away at two strongish rivals.
  • The Germans in the toughest group have 3 home games.

I will be updating the tables and profit and loss as the results come in.
